C.B. I know this ought to be in the repairs section, however this is an unusual question, so I'm asking for a couple of days leeway here, O.K.?

My 23 year old digital piano, has just died. My live in mechanical whiz, has done a check up, all systems are fine, which leaves us with the motherboard as the probable if not definite culprit.

The place I bought it, Lowry's in Toronto do not do repairs. The company, Technics no longer makes these digitals, which were the absolute best quality at the time. Hence no parts.

So, here's the question. The only guy who claims to be able to repair motherboards for these puppies is in the U.K. Essentially these pianos are simply 2 computers with speakers in a piano sized box. Is it possible that a really good mechanical wizard here in Mexico could actually repair one or both flawed motherboards, or should we hold a funeral service?

You'll need an electronics wizard to fix it. The TV/Stereo repair guy in Joco is exceptionally good. An alternative would be to ask one of the local keyboard players if they know someone. I've got to believe there's someone in Guadalajara that can fix it. Remember, in Mexico anything is fixable!

See if you can get the service manual for it. Just google it, but ebay is a good place to start. Once you have that, it will be a whole lot easier to fix.
Although it might be easier to get another one, as suggested.

Oops my mistake, he was always in SJC. When he did repairs for me he was very reasonable. Maybe he became to popular? Let me know how you make out. I have some other ideas.

@Ferret, that's not a bad price for a barely used Roland. Thanks for posting the information.

@peteben, we have the manual, the problem is that parts are well nigh impossible to come by. Technics hasn't made pianos for 8 years, which is a shame, because back in the day they were hands down the best.

I will also call another piano service company in Canada to see what they have to say.
