Seguro Popular - Coverage list
Here is the booklet telling exactly what is covered. I suggest that if you have SP or are thinking about getting it that you print this booklet out and bring it to your doctor to see how the covered items fit your specific situation. This would be a good idea to do BEFORE changing from IMSS to SP as there could be differences.

Re: Seguro Popular - Coverage list
I was just at the Seguro Popular in San Cristobal de las Casas with a very poor woman who shot her ankle by accident. Her husband took her to Seguro Popular and they told her they could not schedule a surgery for 2 months... The bullet shattered her bone..
Hopefully it is better up in the Chapala area...She ended up going to the other hospital which is private, they removed the bullet and put her in a cast and then she told her she did not have any money so they threw her out and told her not to come back.. She hurt her back when she fell back and cannot move her legs so she may have a badly damaged spine and is in horrible pain, she is going back to SP to ask about her back..how about that for scary?

Re: Seguro Popular - Coverage list
Thanks Trailrunner. RIht now I got her an ambulance to pick her up to go back to SP hat did not pay any attention to the fact that she was in horrible pain and can barely move the leg that was not shot. ;y neighbor here is a doctor and he told me to have them do a tomography and then we will see what the next step will be once the results. It took me a couple of days to get the family to agree to go back to the hospital as they had a big fight with a doctor there when they did not take care of her. A friend of hers was translating and was told to mind her own business because she was not family..nice group.. Sure hope I never have to go there..
I know a few people who may be able to help but we have to know what is wrong first so those tests have to be done. That is the immediate project. Will let you know what happens..

AMLO's speech as of yesterday as reported in Mexico News Daily:AMLO announces new integrated health system; Seguro Popular to be replaced
Management of health care services will be transferred from states to federal government

President López Obrador has announced a new integrated federal health system that will incorporate all of Mexico’s states within two years.
The president told reporters at his daily press conference today that eight states will be added to the new federally-operated system every six months.
The first to be included will be Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Yucatán, Quintana Roo and Campeche.
The president said the public health system as it is currently organized, with federal and state authorities offering separate services, is not working and that his plan will fix it.
“The agreement means that the states will transfer [management] of their health care services to the federal government, which will be in charge of the whole health system,” López Obrador said.
Health funding currently allocated to state governments will instead be used by the federal government, he added, explaining that a constitutional reform would allow that to occur.
The leftist president, who has promised to create a universal and free health care system such as those in Canada and Europe, said the federal government has a budget of 90 billion pesos (US $4.5 billion) to create the system and that 25 billion additional pesos will be allocated to implementing it in the first eight states.
López Obrador also said that the Seguro Popular health care program – which offers free health care services to people with no other insurance – will be replaced by a new scheme.
“It’s obvious that it hasn’t worked, it’s not insurance and it’s not popular. It’s going to be replaced by a public health system that guarantees quality medical care and free medication,” he said.
The president will officially present his federal health plan at an event in Mérida, Yucatán, later today.
