Dog friendly restaurants Empty Dog friendly restaurants

Post by CanuckBob Sat Mar 31, 2012 2:54 pm

Now being that we have a spoiled little mutt that has to go everywhere with us I would like to start a list of "Dog Friendly" restaurants. Now I'm not suggesting someone should be able to bring their large "unbagable" mutts in and let them wander around. I am referring to the pocket pooch's that stay in a bag. Here are the ones I know of so far:

Robertos
Beer Garden
Delicias
Sunrise
Yves
Salt & Peppers
Early Bird
Molcohetes

Non Dog Friendly restaurants:

Tango Ajijic
Magana

Someone started a thread on (gasp) TOB which probably listed all the dog friendly places. Happened about a week ago, started by "artsnob".

While I have been owned by pets for most of my life, I don't get this fixation about taking dogs into restaurants? I certainly have no objection to people with aide dogs but there are just so many things that can go wrong with people's pets attempting to interact with patrons, wait staff and quite possibly another dog who may object to sharing territory. I could possibly see this at a "compestre style restaurant" that is totally outdoors with access points that do not require the dog to enter through the interior portion.

There are occasions when one is out and about with the dog and then, oops, it is time to eat. Often one has been to the vet to pick up the dog or has been on the road. Shall we leave the dog in the car in the hot sun to DIE? No, we take it with us where it will live. I rarely take a dog with me to a restaurant but there have been times where it has happened. However, my dogs behave better than most of the kids one encounters in restaurants, they do not go to the salad bar and touch everything or cough and sneeze on the food, they do not scream and carry on at the table, etc. They just lie down at my feet and wait for me to finish so they can leave again.

Only seeing eye dogs should be allowed in restuarants IMO.My kids are very well behaved and fun to be with and they don't shed, have fleas or lick their balls in public like your dogs do.

I have no idea what the critters are that live under the tables at various restaurants (especially the outdoor variety) in the Lake area. Maybe a type of flea? If they are, then those perfect dogs without fleas might be prone to picking them up?

I really hate getting flea bites, and fleas love me. Dog owners don't care about this, I know. THEIR dogs don't have fleas. Of course not. That street dog they meet and rub against in the park doesn't have fleas, either. NO FLEAS ANYWHERE, right?

Nothing personal against the poster here, but saying you have to take your dog into a restaurant because you're hungry and can't wait......and you can't leave it in the car or it would die........is just lame. There are takeout places everywhere, and unless you live on the South side of the lake, you aren't going to go seriously hungry before you get home.

Thus, the fleas under the table when we dine. The non-existent fleas leaving the imaginary bites.

For the sake of discussion...why blame the visiting dogs for the fleas under the table? Most dog owners that I know use frontline once a month on their dogs. If a flea or a tick bites the dog, it dies. Under those circumstances, wouldn't you want dogs with frontline under your table?
How about the restaurants who have resident dogs? Yve's and Roberto's are the first two that come to mind.
The fact of the matter is that fleas are everywhere...grass fleas, sand fleas, dog fleas, cat fleas etc. My hubby is the one who gets bitten but I never do. I do sympathize though but I can't blame it only on the dogs under the table.
We are comfortable leaving our girl in the car if she isn't welcome. Two sets of keys...one to keep the car running with the air conditioner going and the other to lock it up. Or we leave her at home. Planning in advance doesn't always work out.

Funny Hocks. She's on a lead and attached to one of our chairs...for HER protection.
For the record, I would not take a dog to an "inside" restaurant. Outside, with permission, is fine. She'll come nose to nose with a wandering street dog anyway at many restaurants along the highway.

There are fleas Gringal...everywhere. Read my post again please. I believe you like to sit in the section at Roberto's where both dogs and smoking are allowed...that's the area where the bar is located. Am I wrong?

Have we met? This is a little spooky.

Apparently my post didn't get my point across, so I'll go into expanded mode.

I know that this is a dog-centered expat culture, and that comes with the territory of moving here. Around Lakeside, many people seem to treat their pets like children or grandchildren, and if that floats their boats....fine.

However, most kids don't poop on the street, spray the walls, sniff your privates, bark whenever you pass by or sometimes are allowed to sit, bare butted, on restaurant chairs.. Most kids don't have fleas. They can be a pain in the neck other ways, granted. lol. For all those ways......consult Parker.

However, I can't resist pointing out that most dog owners are in a state of denial about their pets' spreading fleas in one way or another.........sprayed with anti flea stuff, or not. Therefore, sitting in a restaurant that allows dogs is acknowledging that I may be bit. Sometimes, the good food is worth the risk, and the logic that I may be found sitting in such a place doesn't affect my point one way or the other, does it?

My post was basically irony, directed at the folks who don't believe fleas circulate around restaurants and bite people. It doesn't much matter where you sit in any restaurant that allows dogs. The non-existent fleas get around.

My point, in sparkling lighted letters: Bringing dogs into restaurants is a personal choice, and not a necessary one, like taking your kids on the plane with you to visit family. It does affect other diners. So why do it?

I've never been bitten in Tango's and the others who don't allow dogs at all.
I rest my case, scratching.

Who knows? I like to avoid making all-encompassing statements because some nit-picker is for sure going to jump in with exceptions. Maybe their kids have fleas, especially if they have a beloved pet.

Some folks find every flea within 40 acres (kinda like horses who find the
one nail in the pasture). I just don't get bit from fleas. Go figure. I imagine
it is frustrating Gringal. I just see the dogs as entertainment at resturants.
Guess its different if you are getting bit.
