TOFU!
Yeah, yeah, I know.
But, for those of you who might also be on a plant-based diet . . . the tofu lady in Ajijic makes some mighty fine tofu! Actually has flavor and good solid texture. It's yum. 49 pesos/kg

Re: TOFU!
Hey Ferret!
My neighbor brought it to me, but here's what I know. Across from Manix is an iron worker and la Señora makes fresh tofu. I think you have to order ahead and I don't have a phone number. I think she makes it the next day.
He and I split a kilo and she charged him 49 pesos.
Let me know if you find out more. Best tofu I've ever had!
Here's my favorite tofu recipe from a friend's blog:

Re: TOFU!
Tofu in a salad is nice and light and refreshing Hocks. Refried beans just wouldn't cut it but I like them with other things.
Thanks for the info Trailrunner.

Doesn't this defeat the purpose of tofu?
I mean, I always thought its virtue was that it took on the flavor of what it was cooked in and didn't introduce its own. Not that I know what I'm talking about...

Re: TOFU!
From what I think that I know, tofu was invented in China and migrated to certain other Asian foods. As Axixic stated, one of the beauties of tofu is that it takes on the taste of dishes that it is prepared in. When the "granola crowd" crowned it as the high protein substitute with such things as tofu turkey, then they had to introduce flavors and other bastardizations.

Tofu is soybeans, Beans are pinto, black, etc etc.. Much of soybeans these days are grown
with roundup tolerant GM seeds. Not sayiing roundup is bad for humans or anything like
that just saying do you want to eat GM food? If the answer is no careful with tofu.

Re: TOFU!
This is the truth, Z, unfortunately. Nearly 90% of the world's soybeans, corn, and canola are GM. I hate Monsanto and all the politicians that have allowed them to threaten the world food supply.
The only way to avoid GM soybeans is to buy organic tofu. Super Lake sells packaged organic tofu, whether the woman in Ajijic buys organic soy beans or not is still unknown to me.

Funny drift
The US government and the ADM corporation are determined to up the Alcohol content to 15% in gas.
Here is the problem. Fifteen percent alcohol eats lower quality stainless steel which is what most
fuel lines are made of. Can't wait to see the problems with older cars and small engines when they
up the percentage.
I now return you to the previous post which I have hijacked.
