Lunateak got it.. yall come up with some..

Three guys go into a hotel looking for separate rooms but the only room available is a 3 bedroom suite for $30 per night. They allowed that would work and each coughed up $10 and off to the suite they went. The desk clerk was entering it in the ledger and discovered the suite was supposed to be $25. He called the bellboy over and sent him off to refund the $5 to the three guys. The bellboy figured that splitting the $5 three ways was impossible. So to make it easier, he put $2 in his own pocket. Upon arrival at the suite, the bellboy informed them they had been overcharged and had a refund of $1/each.

So if each guy originally paid $10 and were refunded $1 - each individual actually paid $9. Three paying $9/each equals $27. Add to that the $2 the bellboy had and you have $29. Where is the missing $1 between the original $30 and the total of $29?

In it is in the same loose change that the banks skim off.

((30 - 3) -2) = 25

((25 + 3) +2) = 30

That is all we need to know.......jajajaja.

Bob did answer it - but to be specific: there is no missing dollar - it is the wrong operation. Adding $27 and $2 (to get $29) is wrong.

They paid $27, $2 went to the bellboy and $25 went to the hotel. You have to subtract $27 minus $2 to get $25.

There never was a $29; it has nothing to do with it.

Actually CanuckBob did answer the question. I suspect that he had heard it before. Interestingly, if you give this question to 100 women and 100 men - 80% of the women will have the answer before 20% of the men.

Obviously I gave a "misdirect" when performing the math on 3 x $9 and then adding back the $2. The 3 x $9 is a subtraction from the original amount of $30 and then I should have continued the subtraction with the $2.

Next math question: there is a 12 foot telephone pole and at the base is a snail wishing to climb to the top. This snail is able to climb 3 feet during the daylight hours but during the night it slides back down 2 feet.

How many days does it take the snail to reach the top?
