BABA GANOUJ
OMG! Never thought I'd have the pleasure of eating it again. Was at the Tuesday market and bought some baba ganouj from the young man who owns the Cairo Restaurant. It is AUTHENTIC. Definitely char broiled eggplant used, garlic, spices and tahini...nummy, nummy!
I will be buying again next week and will also try some of his tabbouleh.
I like to mix up international cuisine...you have NO idea how good a quesadilla, made with pepper jack cheese and a whole wheat tortilla, and dipped into baba ganouj just before eating can be.

My friend loves his tabbouleh. It's not really my thing, but she says it's very good. I'm all over his baba ganoush though. Wael at Cafe Cairo makes some good food. If you haven't eaten there, GO.

Bad use of English, Hocks. Nice catch. Should have read "Definitely char broiled eggplant used (to make it) along with garlic, spices and tahini". I think I was drooling on my typing fingers.

Eggplant ranks right next to brussels sprouts as the most disgusting vegetable.

And I catch flak for using mint jelly! HA!
Seisdedos: I would agree. As a kid, I tried claiming that eggplant made my teeth itch attempting to get out of eating it.

He is from Cairo and likes to talk arabic with my wifes son.
We like every thing but the falafel which we think is made
differently than what we are use to from Lebanon. Maybe
different beans??

Not if it's cooked right. The Italian place in Guadalajara pretty much opposite that giant shoe plaza does a wonderful eggplant in marinara sauce. Eggplant Parmigiano. Delicious, and so is moussaka, Yummy.
@ Ferret, I'm happy to hear that Cafe Cairo is still in business and still serving all those delicious goodies.

Hola Ferret,
Love Wael's baba ganouj, my hummus, and the gal east of Wael for tabouli. She does two varieties, one sin grain but with cucumber, and the other, gluten-free, with rice. Absolutely stellar! She sells out by 11am.....
Enjoy!
