tob censorship

hi, i have just joined this website after visiting the wierd goings on on to what is refered to as the other board. What a load of crap they spout, plus if you speak the truth or constructively disagree with anyone, you either get warnings or blocked.. Its definately not free speech there..
Yesterday was a posting regarding a possible kidnapping at the weekend, no names mentioned, all very correct. Its important to know whats happening locally for security reasons, But suddenly all traces of this were removed, no explanation. I can only assume the realtor owners dont like the truth being told on their boards, i find this totally unacceptable and will never even look at their site again.
So here i am and i like what i see and read here.
I hope the person or persons involved in the kidnapping are ok and are released without harm quickly.

Each site has its quirks the tob allows remarks from people like Bennie that are way more offensive than crime reporting. So racism and ignorance is allowed but crime reporting is not to each its own.

By the way while I agree that crime reporting is useful tool for the community , gossiping ad nauseum about it is not and as far as kidnappings are concerned unless the family involved wants information in the internet, nothing should be said.I think the victim and family security should come before the "need" to know of the readers.

Hi brigitte, i totally agree that the victim and family come first, and information is confidential, but when it is aired publically and correctly ,its useful to know.But my point is that we should have the information available,to know that these things are happening, although thankfully not so many in this area, and its not censored by a group of people who are protecting their own interests. If they are going to do this is pointless them having a discussion board.

Bennie's board, aka Chapala.com, is rendering itself useless unless you're trying to locate sea salt or need driving directions to Laredo for the umpteenth time.

One thng for sure...they don´t like it when links to this board are posted. Even the mention of this board will result in a delete or lock.

Kidnappings are a crime and crime is news,,,people like to talk about news and they like to be aware of what goes on around them. Every crime has a victim...I don´t think Bob would allow anything that would compromise a family s security.

Do we remember Alan Turnipseed, the expat who was strangled during a robbery at his home in Riberas a couple of years ago? That happened before the no-crime policy went into effect on Chapala.com. There was a lengthy discussion on that board about the crime. People had seen Turnipseed with two young men that same day. Others knew who they were and posted their suspicions in the thread. Well, according to former police chief Contreras, the perps were identified by monitoring the Chapala.com board...and they were quickly arrested. I think that shows the value of having an open and uncensored discussion board.

Apparently being a mod on TOB is such a low paying position that moderator2 can no longer afford to go to Chapala because of the new parking meters.

Eileen, you don't have to make mistakes to get banned on TOB, just asking a question or PM to the wrong Mod can git u there!

Thank you all, I can already see that this is by far the better board.

During the five years I moderated TOB by myself, I don't think I removed more than twelve posts, mostly by Pedro or one of his alter-egos. I also did not ban more than twelve people, mostly Pedro or one of his nom-de-plumes. David Tingen never once told me what to do....only once did he ask me to look into a situation where someone thought she was being unfairly badmouthed. I agreed and removed the thread.
I have no idea what is going on over there now. All I know is that it is not pretty.
