El Pingüino
Was looking for a place called "La Letra Ch" just outside of Chapala on the road to Vista del Lago, but after two slow drive-bys I couldn't find it. Instead I stopped in to El Pingüino, on the corner of (I think Pepe Guizar) and the highway. The place itself has been there for a while, under different names.
Anyway, I ordered up the tacos camarones Gobernador. These are chopped shrimp with fried onion and green peppers, and melted cheese. The tacos themselves are larger than the average street taco, and they come in at 15p. Deelishus. My huge limonada mineral was 15p, too. I'll be back to try their fairly extensive fish menu. Fish al gusto was 80; shrimp 95. Seafood soup 100; rellenos de mariscos; shrimp burgers 40; caldo michi 70. Various ceviches are 12.

Re: El Pingüino
It's directly across the street from El Pingüino. It's the purple hotel/restuarant. I haven't been yet but several friends give it good reviews. The restaurant is upstairs with great views.

Are both of these restaurants on the street in front of the malecon?

Nope, you gotta get to the far west end of Chapala on Av. Gonzalez Gallo (hint: old train station is there), and the corner of Pepe Guizar (the boulevard that runs through Las Redes neighbourhood). Both places are practically on the corner, Pinguino on the lake side.

I think it is the far EAST end of Chapala on Av. Gonzalez Gallo.............
Anyway, it's the end where the sun rises.
