Is it possible to leave Mexico with a valid Permanente Visa and re-enter and get a 6 month tourist visa?

I believe Spenser addressed this issue earlier, and said NO.

It can be done, but if you are caught there is a large fine. Beer

When Spencer talked about his he wrote in ALL CAPS which I took to mean this was a serious NO NO!!!!!!

Is it a no no if you have left the country not to return to live or should you go to a consulate to have the permanent cancelled and then travel as a tourist if you want to?

Why would you do that? Permanente is PERMANENT and never has to renewed

Frankly if you live back in Canada having a permanent visa prevents you from driving your Canadian plated car when you visit.
