Double murder robbery in La Floresta?

I heard a rumour of a La Floresta couple being robbed and murdered last night. Anyone know the truth or details?

Sadly this is truth, but I don't know anymore details than that. I policeman I know called me and told me this morning.

The only information I got was that they were Canadian expats, and according to the policeman, "the shit will hit the fan when this hits the news".

A neighbour of the unfortunate couple advises that there was an apparent break-in through a smashed bathroom window last evening. A car was stolen and was found this morning by the gardeners.

someone reported on TOB that the bodies were found after noon today, but the call I got from the policeman was before noon. He knew my parents lived in Ajijic, but couldn't remember where, which is why he called me to double check. Thankfully my parents live on the west side of Ajijic.

I just heard. I knew the woman who was killed. Sad and shocking.

Well who was she?

Nina Discombe and her husband.

Wow...she's a writer, no? Well known by a lot of the old timers here...I don't know her but we have some friends in common.
What a terrible shame. They were quite young and very involved in life here.

Eduardo just moved there - red flag.
Vehicle taken but abandoned - red flag.
Extreme violence (apparently) in attack - red flag.
(Robbers may kill but they usually JUST kill. Extreme violence suggests a relationship between assailants and victims.)

BUT it is WAY too early to conclude anything and none of us have sufficient information to draw any kind of conclusion.

Two people are dead - it is very sad and we need to grieve. But we also need to stay calm and not let our imaginations run rampant. Let the investigators do their job.

Nina and I belonged to the same small writers group. There may be more to this than is known right now.

Who is Eduardo?

Eduardo is the man who was killed. Another poster mentioned him in thr "red flag" post above.

Eduardo was her husband or someone else? The paper said there were two Canadians killed. Eduardo was Canadian?

Canadian couple beaten to death in Ajijic

The beaten and bruised bodies of a Canadian couple have been discovered in their home in La Floresta, Ajijic in what local police believe was a home invasion.

The couple, who have yet to be formally identified, arrived in Ajijic six weeks ago, according to  local Spanish-language news reports. The man, aged 84, and woman, 72, were found by their gardener around 10 a.m. on Sunday. The house had been ransacked, police told reporters.  The assailants also made off with two vehicles belonging to the couple, they said.

Neighbors said the victims were from the province of Ontario.

Guadalajara daily Mural reported that the day before they were killed, the couple had entertained visitors and driven them to the Guadalajara Airport in the evening.

More news reports to follow later in the day.

THe Mexican paper says they had been there for 6 months and the Guadalajara reporter says 6 weeks??

I don't buy the inference that there may be more to this than it appears, just because the couple was beaten.  

There have been other home invasions in Ajijic in the past where the homeowners were beaten by the robbers to try to get more info out of them regarding ATM card, location of safes in house, hidden money in house, keys to cars, etc.  

In one case about 2 years ago, the homeowner was taken from the home invaded, to an ATM to w/d money; he had been beaten at the home, as was his wife.  

Very sad troubling news, especially as it comes on the heels of another home invasion attempt in Ajijic where the homeowner was shot in the leg, just last week.
