So, Spencer, does that mean that my friend with a Residente Permanente who is still driving his South Dakota plated vehicle can only be ticketed/whatever by the Aduana Police or the Federales (barring any accidents)?

RP should not drive a foreign plated car they imported, car can be impounded. Federales, transito or aduana police can take although aduana police rarely leaves airport.

Which of the entities you listed in the OP are legally authorized to ask for one's immigration documents?TIA

Really only immigration can ask and perhaps the federal police although most agencies routinely ask, perhaps transito has no reason to ask as long as you are not driving a foreign plated car.

I dunno. Transito (around here anyway) have definitely asked to see immigration papers if your TIP has expired. Whether they have the specific authority to do so, I don't know. They certainly have logical foundation since the legal status of a vehicle (with an expired TIP) is directly tied to your immigration status.

And their insurance will be null and void if they get into an accident.

TIP's do not expire according to Aduana rules back in 2007-2008 .... as long as your visa is legal.   My TIP is from 2007 and Aduana shrugged their shoulders .... like ni modo

Or here is a new twist - you are driving a Mexican City plated car, duly and properly registered, with title - but your TIP might show up if Aduana or Federales searches the database? How can you remove from the database? It is my feeling, from reading this post, that TIPS older than five years ago are not even in the database. Do Federales even have access yet to this database while in the field?

Remove from the database if you had sticker removed at border, the system goes back 10 years or so.

Thanks for sharing this information. On the Jalisco coast I sometimes see law enforcement trucks with the logo "State Police Auxiliary). The trucks are white with light bars but not armored like the black Jalisco state police trucks, also the auxiliary police do not carry weapons, only mace and handcuffs. Are these guys real police or some quasi legal private police?

Those are private police who are state police and can carry guns but are assigned to private employers.

Saw new state police vehicle and it said police Jalisco on it so maybe we have a new truck and logo. It was new.
