STICKER SHOCK Empty STICKER SHOCK

Post by Jim W Thu Jul 03, 2014 5:49 pm

We've been in Arizona much longer than anticipated.....I have finally accepted my prognosis, so I took my son out to lunch at the golf course, he had a Rueben & fries, I had a French dip w/salad.   Drinks, me ice tea, Jeremy Corona!    Total bill $35.00.........They charged $5.50 for the Corona USD!

John in Ajijic must be rolling in pain paying North Carolina prices, as he gets ready to enjoy the hurricane on the 4th of July!

Jaja.....yeah well just so you feel better, the same lunch at a golf course in Vancouver would have probably set you back $50. The Corona alone would have been $9.00.

I'm sure we don't hear from John for a reason.........nothing to brag about.

Not sure dining at a golf course is representative of actual cost of said lunch.

Yesterday I took my very young grandchildren to a hot dog 'shack' here in madison CT (on the shore just north of new haven) .. 2 kids meals (plain hot dog, fries , juice box) + 2 watermelon slices = 17.50!!

Just came back from B.C. Tax system for booze was expensive. 14 bucks for six pack of Sierra Nevada pale ale at state store. Seven bucks for a quart bottle of nice beer. Would be five in Oregon. Feel sorry for these folks in B.C. Big taxes on sin stuff.

Well if you are going to be in Canada at least call it a "Provincial store" not a State store. There are no states in Canada.....jajaja. Welcome home!!

Well actually BC residents pay about $75.00 per month for their BC Medical (for a single person). It is reduced for those that are under the poverty level.

jeeze the only province still left with a fee. in any event, part o' or maybe even all the tax is ferderal. souza blanco was $35 in alberta and ontario 8 years ago. alberta has no pst and ontario is 8%[?] yet the swill was still the same ridiculous price. i don't buy it here but what is it-about 5 bucks?
health care is federal but administered by the provinces and territories. there are no states involved since as bob says, there are none of these in canada

John that went back to the US, was visiting Vancouver to go to Alaska, and like pedro thought that health insurance was free...even for non residents.

¿So did Zed have health insurance when visiting Canada?

Yes my insurance covers me anywhere in the world. Nothing to do with B.C. or Canada. Taxes on booze went to Fed and Province as it showed on receipt so who knows where the money goes. Two places at least.

you only saw the gst and pst but not the huge hidden amount that goes to the feds and commonly known as the "sin tax".
cigs are about$14-16/per pack. i think the cig companies get about $1 of that and gummint the rest.

Cigs are about $12 for a 25 pack, in Alberta. I believe that if you are a non-resident, you can get a form and apply to get a rebate on sales taxes. Look it up.

I believe you can get a GST rebate. Not sure what portion of the pack that is. Probably a few centavos.
