South Shore Safety

Hi all,

I am visiting Lake Chapala soon and was considering time on the south shore near Tizapan El Alto. What is your impression of the safety in that area? I am particularly interested because of the proximity to the border with Michocan.

They have had their share of problems in that town with the bad guys but I haven't heard anything lately. Personally I would stay a little closer to San Luis Soyalatan (sp).

We live in Tizapan El Alto and feel very safe. I drive to Ajijic at least once a month, never any problems. However, at this time I no longer shop in Sahuayo, locals just last week advised me to only do that by bus.

I live on the south shore and we have not had any problems. I live between San Luis and Tizapan. We drive that way often for meals.

We live full time on the south shore close to San Luis Soyatlan.  We are out and about often, either around to Jocotepec and Ajijic or east to Tuxcueca/Tizapan/Mismaloya/Mazamitla and have not had any problems, quite the contrary, we have always met warm and friendly people.
