Geez, It took an act of God to get back on here. I was registered as RayS but it wouldn't let me log in, Looked at member list and there was a Ray there so I guess I'm Ray drop S.

Unfortunately everyone has to re-register. I am open to suggestions for topics and am currently accepting applications for Moderators.

Glad to see its back up and running. Maybe add an Octogon Room for the disputes and I liked the diffrent areas of Mexico categories.

I know someone, or some group, has been putting in a lot of time to get this forum up and running, and from what I can tell, Pedro and Neil are trying to see if they can resurrect the old forum. But, I was also wondering (like Locogringo) what happened? Do we still have the same Admins and Mods? I see most folks are reregistering with their same user names. Kind of curious as to what happened and it looks like it is going to take a while for the posts to start accumulating. Talk about lurkers, with a brand clean slate it's probably going to be harder to get the shy folk out posting new topics.

I'm just appreciative of the folks that have been doing all the work to get this up. Thanks, it is a worthy cause, this was a great forum and I'd sure like to see it continue.

I can guarantee it won't be, just reading this single thread confirms all the old baggage, temper tantrums and "mememe" stuff that killed the last one is alive and well here. I was going to repost the pics etc. from the last group, but why bother?

So, is that a tantrum or just a hissy fit...?

Hi Steve, I am open to suggestions. At this point I was just trying to make the board look like the previous one. What would you like to see added or removed?

This morning I got an email from a guy considering coming down and wanted to know what happened to the last board, in part I answered as follows:

I made the decision to come here 4 years ago tomorrow and have seen generations of the chapala board come and go at least 3, probably 4 times and devolve to the now useless ego trip it is for the mods. Then Steve Miller started one and it did well until it crashed, Sparks has his but it's pretty much dead, the MexConnect board used to cost but is now free and continues. There is a S shore board and an Expat board which limp along so there are still some boards out there but a number of the knowledgeable "characters" are gone, banned and burned out so the heart of the real knowledge, the spirit of the community is gone, is lost or unavailable.

One of my pet theories (and it applies to the latest incident) is that we're all a bunch of old, irrelevant hasbeens but we won't accept that we're past our prime and no one cares. Many, or most, of us were "important" in our lives, managers, business owners etc. and we haven't gotten over that and here and now no one cares and it brings out the worst in us.

Another factor is that for the most part people hide behind their keyboards, it's like the telephone, people will say things on the phone or on the PC they'd never say in person. I've tried a number of times in the last 3 years to get some of the adversarial people to come out and have a beer, come over to my place and have coffee etc. and 100% without exception they will NOT do it - yet they're the first to complain about the "good ol' boy" groups etc.

Note: I do not exempt myself from any of the preceding.

Chapala.com attempts to subvert the problem by essentially neutering the board, they preform a daily "frontal lobotomy" when anyone with any character posts anything that might be "individual" in nature and so as I said they've lost a huge base of knowledge. But, maybe even worse they have a memory like an elephant, they NEVER forget, if you go back as a new personality, completely sanitized and in lockstep with their standards, and they recognize you, they'll still pull your plug in a heartbeat.

Example: I was being rigidly monotone and after the rain in Feb I had posted pics of the rain in Chapala on a "neutral" site and referenced it on TOB - zap, gone. Now who did they hurt? - me? - no because I simple pulled out another previously registered ID, I just wanted to share some of the pics of our community and they, the community, were the ones "deprived" of my humble offering.

So, my view is that if you're trying to make the board like the last one - it has already failed, you've built in your own destruction, if you can perform a frontal lobotomy without the usual results, then you'll have accomplished a medical miracle.

If you want a board with "character" then how much is too much or too little? From a personal perspective profanity of any level is unnecessary, and unacceptable, if the poster(s) cannot express themselves in the English language without expletives (or stupid speech) then they need to return to an educational institution before rejoining society et al. Personal attacks are unacceptable, if you don't like someone - keep it in your pocket, don't read their posts, attacking them results in nothing more than exposing yourself as a little person (I should know).

That concludes my little tantrum etc., I wish you all well.

So, am I'm a newby to this board? ... or was I a newby to the old board which is no longer in existance???

Did the administrater pull the plug on the other one?
