IMMIGRATION BLOG, THE BAD AND THE UGLY
Conducting any sort of business or doing applications with immigration we have just about seen it all. We've seen the bad, the ugly and sometimes the inexplicable. Many times people renew their immigration documents late for good reason, other times they were busy or just forgot and sometimes they innocently weren't aware of their obligation to notify immigration and others assumed that if they asked questions to the Mexican Consulate in the US that they would get accurate answers.

We believe that knowledge is power as well as we feel it informative as well as interesting to let you know how much the fines run (using a recent random sampling of clients) for various violations of the immigration (and related) laws. It is more than eye opening to note that many clients have paid fines after following advice obtained from the Mexican Consulate in the US. For this reason, we discourage people from getting advice from Mexican Consulates outside Mexico and instead recommend that they obtain all information from immigration (INAMI , Instituto Nacional de Migracion) in Mexico.

Now the juicy stuff, the fines that have been recently paid:

07/2011 R. J. Renewal of FM3 at the Mexican Consulate in Texas, Yes, he paid them, they accepted the money and stamped renewed in his FM3 booklet and the following year was fined here in Mexico for renewing outside Mexico. $2,393.00
07/2011 J. C. Working FM3 expired 15 days earlier (late renewal). $1,196.00
07/2011 C. B. Inmigrado was unaware of requirement to notify of change of address after 6 years, 1 month, 25 days. $2,692.00
08/2011 J.S. Entry into the country without stopping at immigration And getting an FMM card after obtaining an FM3 at a Consulate (was told at the consulate that with his FM3 from them he didn´t need to stop at immigration). $1,196.00
You can see some patterns here so when you renew late now you know more or less (assuming things stay the same) how much you will have to pay for the fine.
