One person posted a link on here indicating that the airline "screening" process involves touching the forehead to detect fever. Since the incubation period after infection to symptoms is around 14 days, that's clearly useless. The world is in real trouble.

I am sorry but my Fear Meter is near Explode as things are. I am not going to worry about the latest WE’RE ALL GUNNA DIE! stories. As you say, CBob, it’s another flu. It will kill more or fewer people than existing flues but I will give as much energy worrying about it as I do any other one — which is to say, none.

An unfair thing it is not just the Chinese in China who are going to suffer, but also the Chinese shops and restaurants spread all over the world. Innocent victims.

Just take some simple precautions. Order some white cotton inspection gloves with either an antiviral or barrier hand cream.They often come in packs of 10, are not expensive, and washable if you are careful. Wearing nitrile or latex gloves in areas of possible exposure is just way too uncomfortable. If you order facemasks, make sure they are HEPA rated, much smaller filter than general dust masks. Never touch your eyes or nose when you are out.

The post I am responding to with this, is gone. It had stated that the 1918 flu pandemic killed 1/3 of the world's population.

There are commentaries about this virus all over the place. However, it doesn’t hurt to be on the cautious side. That is, avoid crowds, wash your hands often, stock up on food and other necessities. It is too early to tell how serious this might be but WHO and the US government are taking extra precautions.
