Flights to and from Mexico Suspended from Canada

Just announced, Canadian government has suspended all flights to and from Mexico and the Caribbean starting January 31 until April 30.  

Good for Canada. Not so good for people who maybe stranded away from home but it is only till April..

Doubtful many Canadians will be travelling anyhow given all the requirements to get back home now (pcr test, hotel quarantining etc.) although it does look like some maybe stuck here longer than anticipated.

yes it is an expensive way to travel , if you have to go into isolation, get tests etc..

I think "stuck in Mexico" is not a good word choice. Maybe some will slow down a bit, get to know more fully the culture and people of Mexico, find that things they thought they needed in place for retirement are a lot lower cost and possibly not necessary. Then they decide to run away from home to Mexico, living here permanently, for at least a few years.

That is supported by history.

That's only for the major Canadian airlines; Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing and Air Transat. Incoming international flights are limited to the four airports; Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. I do not like the idea of banning someone from going to their own home.  People who know me, or read my posts, know that I am about as liberal as one can be.  

But not letting me go to my home after I've tested negative pre-flight, is simply wrong.  

And yes I know that the test result is a snapshot in time, and that I could be positive when I arrive.  But let me go home with the requirement that I stay there, and make me retake the test (at home) within x days of arrival and then quarantine me at home if that test is positive.

I have the right to go to my own home.

Well on the other side of the coin the Canadian government has been warning Canadians abroad for some time that you may not be able to get home.

Well of course the issue is that while you are a responsible person who would quarantine in your own home, others are not. So short of posting a guard outside the door of everyone who feels as you do, people have shown that they can't be trusted.

Australia was down to no community transmission, then some folks flew in, were instructed to quaratine for 14 days, but did no such thing and started a new spread.

Apparently someone contacted AeroMexico and they are also discontinuing flights to and from Canada after Feb. 7.

The problem is that some people are totally irreponsible.. I know a  young woman in France who came down with covid.. she passed it on to her parents who both got very sick but did not get tested despite being very sick with covid symptoms.. The woman who is in her 60s visited her mother  who is in her 90´s and passed on covid to her. The mother is now dying with covid in a hospital and the daughter, the 60 something went to the hospital to sign up forms.. She told the hospital she had covid and they told her to come with a mask and sign the forms anyways.....repeat that kind of stupidity, carelessness and I do not know what to call it ,a few thousand times and you have a big problem..
In Taipei where they are controlling covid pretty well , if you are taken into quarentine after a flight , despite the fact that you are negative... you have to wear a mask inside the room and they have cameras to make sure you do....

Hey Canadians? Would you be happy with these restrictions if you son had a massive heart attack and you can't see him? Maybe he lives, maybe he dies but you can't be with him.

Or being with your family when you first great grandbaby is born? I am sure that phone video the family sends will be enough.

In fact you can't get home at all with no flights. You can't enter the USA. April 30 won't be the end of restrictions, it will be extended

You have a negative test before you fly, you have a negative test when you land, and you are locked down for 2 weeks. You never had any covid but you are restricted anyway.

Yes it is. It is what has to happen because idiots roam the world. It's always the entitled few who spoil it for the many. That's why laws exist...

Most Canadians support these restrictions.

I feel very sorry for all those who's parents are in senior homes where they are not allowed to visit. How painful that must be, especially when someone dies and you haven't been able to be with them. But only an idiot would go out of his way to expose everyone else by breaking the rules we've had to set up.

Yes, it is continuing to be a terrible time for many. So was rationing during the war. We came out of it on the other end by not being idiots about it.

I would agree with Canuck Bob, most Canadians seem to support these restrictions, those in Canada anyways. The Justice Center for Constitutional Freedoms (similar to the ACLU) has announced their intention to file a lawsuit against the Canadian Government’s new quarantine policy.

Canadians are pretty sensible people and I can see accepting this if it is inthe interest of everyone.. People travelling during this crisis , I have be grown up and realized that they could be stranded at one time or another...It is no fun and expensive but these are risks you take when being away from home..

What does happiness have to do with it? Of course that would be a painful situation, just as it's painful for me not to have seen my new grandbaby who's now 15 months old since she was 4 months old. Nor have I seen my other daughter or my other Canadian grandkids in even longer than that.

My personal happiness and situation is immaterial. Stopping the spread of the pandemic and its resulting deaths is what's important here. Responsible adults understand that.

There is no way this pandemic is going to be over anytime soon if individuals don't start being responsible for both themselves and others. This is NOT socialism. It's common sense.
