Wow old Echo star. I believe Echo star became Dish Network if my corporate
bloodline memory is correct. Charlie Ergin ran things. An interesting man. If
the metal mesh is smaller than a pencil it can be used for Ku band. If a pencil
can fit through the mesh it is only useful for C band which is close to useless.
Some people turn them upside down if they are solid and use them for roof
molds or roofs. Any way to get rid of the eyesore in my opinion would be a
good thing but that is me especially the 15 foot ones.

I don't know where there's a recycling place is but there are a couple of guys in a beat up old pick up truck with mega-speakers blaring who make the rounds on an irregular basis picking up scrap metal. Maybe someone knows how to contact them?

If you can retro fit, a new LNB, convert, I think to KUband....I may be wrong on this, this might be Muzak....the land of elevator music.....At any rate, get a fixed mount with the huge dish you have....may be able to use......bottom line is you can buy a system from local dish and shaw dealers for far less money than a retro fit. Plus a 15' dish is subject to more wind issues, as many smaller dish installations are fix mount, sled mount or wall mount.

We were having some roof work done and one of the workers was willing to take it, in the states we would have had to pay, another reason to live in Mexico, people still know how to reuse. Very Happy

Take it off flip it upside down and put it on a pole in the ground and make it into a palapa.

Providing it is not a metal dish and most of the 15' C band monsters are all metal with holes in them to lower the profile to the wind. If they
were plastic/fiberglass and 15 ft you probably couldn't keep them on the roof in a wind storm thus the metal ones with all the holes.

It was metal (aluminim) & way to big to roof mount..I had it pole-mounted. When I switched to Dish, my welder neighbor rigged up a mount & I moved the pole. I first saw this on a visit to Ajijic about 10 years ago.

We already have one and no room for another plus this small jester probably bought us some good will with our contractors’ employees. Very Happy

I too have a spare metal dish still mounted on the roof along with the other dish laying on the roof.
Paging through the January issue of "EL Ojo del Lago" on page 61 I found an ad for REAL-Cycla. They buy metal and pick up free according to the ad. When I get a pile built up I might give them a call and see what they are about.
Thanks again
Bill

Be careful removing that BUD (C band called Big Ugly Dish) from the roof or pole. They don't weigh that much but they are very awkward. I suggest
four or five people for taking it off its mask and than take it apart on the floor or roof if room. Edges can be sharp also depending on design. Be
very glad they are aluminum and not steel.
