Yves Restaurant & Bar Empty Yves Restaurant & Bar

Post by CheenaGringo Tue Feb 28, 2012 6:17 pm

Now I will grant you that we have only tried this restaurant one time but I am having a hard time understanding why there isn't more "chatter" about this establishment. We considered it to be a great find and not only enjoyed our dinners there but we found Yves to be a very pleasant and entertaining host. The view over the Lake is extremely nice and we got lucky with a nice sunset. Even better, we were the last customers of the evening and we couldn't have asked for more attentive service. It will definitely be on our return list on future trips.

Yves is one of our favorites. Outstanding breakfasts. Good lunches, simple fare. They have an unusual taco salad (no beans) with different dressings. Chicken, beef or shrimp.
Dinners include everything from fish to pasta and steak.
We went on Saturday night with friends and had a variety of entrees, all tasty.

I have two caveats: Don't sit by the lake balcony lest you be cremated by the sun in late afternoon, and expect slow service.
It's good service, but speedy it isn't. Fine view.
They do allow smokers and dogs in the outside area. Some inside seating; full bar. Nice owners.
Free donkey braying. Don't try to pet her. She's a cranky old girl and nips.

Glad to hear that we are not alone in some of our opinions. I can see where it might get a bit toasty in the late afternoon sun but last August, it was quite pleasant at sunset. As far as service goes, we can be quite undemanding as long as we receive our cocktails in a timely fashion and our dinners arrive in the correct sequence. For us, dinner is an unwind session after a using hectic day. If anything, we find wait staffs tend to be too much in our face to order dinner as soon as we receive our cocktails. We really enjoy the calm while having a cocktail or two before we have to dive into dinner as it gives us the opportunity to discuss our day's experiences in a relaxing manner. We did experience a delay in getting our bill but we got over being bothered by that aspect years ago.

You'll have plenty of time for those cocktails. LOL.
They also serve you a little kahlua based after dinner drink, gratis.

The sun moves around of course, but last Saturday afternoon it was a bit much. The do put up some bamboo shades if you ask.

Yves is also one of our favourites and our even knowing about it is thanks to Gringal. It's not always easy to get a parking spot close enough for my hubby to get there without difficulty...and the ramp up to it is hard for him...but he makes the effort for the good food, ambience and blissful quiet. Our favourite arrival time is around 11:30 a.m. which is after breakfast and before lunch for most people. Love their BLT, club sandwich and their enchiladas suizas. Their taco salad is not my favourite because I've been spoiled by Panino's taco salad which is exceptional. Each to his/her own.
Yves is a wonderful host and his staff are unobtrusively attentive. Location divine.

I understand Yves has changed for the better, so our group will try it again.

We ate there when it first opened, maybe 4 years ago. It was a totally different experience than all of you, very, very limited menu, high prices and mediocre food along with slow service.

One of our standard resturant trips is Yves. He is a very good host
and his food is good. He also serves good Mohitos which are very
satisfying and a nice change from Margaritas. Great view and you
get to pet the donkey when you are done as Yves takes care of her.

Not the cheapest nor the most expensive but I always feel good and
satisfied when I go there at the end of the meal. Good help also.

As far as speedy goes it is not. As some one said before as long as
I get my drink before dinner the wait is fine. We don't go there when
we are in a hurry. Infact we tend to hang longer as long as they don't
need the table.

Not if you have a carrot in your pocket. Watch her ears and eyes and you can tell if she is going to be a cranky old girl.
I love donkeys so much more personality than the typical horse IMHO.

I'll resist commenting on carrots in your pockets. That's just donkey mordida!
Personality, she' s got. If Yves doesn't have that pile of leftover veggies down by the tree..........she steps up and starts the dangdest racket until he gives up.

He does a good job with fish at dinner. I like the sea bass in lemon butter. I think that's 120 pesos including the salad bar. Others at our table had the filet for around 140pesos.

For breakfast items.......my fave is the square spinach/cheese omelet, served with tasty sausages and hash browns, along with strawberry jam for your bread or bollilo. Yum.

I'm guessing that you're parking at the Malecon Park parking area. That route is pretty treacherous for people with mobility problems. If so, try this alternate route:
From the Carretera, turn toward the lake at Javier Mina, turn right on 16 Septiembre (one way street) and then turn left on Galeana. Drive to the dead end where the big wooden cross is, and there is often parking along the lake on that street, or proceed on to Ramon Corona, turn right and you may find parking there. From there to Yves is pavement. Watch for the rough spots, but it's easier than the other route.

Thanks Gringal...that's the route we've been taking lately...only parked once at the Malecon. Where there's a will there's a way.

Esposa y yo ate at Yves last night. I had the atun asado (seared tuna) she went for the fillet. Both were really excellent. Service was flawless, not either overbearing or inattentive. Had a nice chat with Yves who makes a point of visiting with all his customers to make sure they are happy. Very much liked the salad bar. Wine was decent pour but a little on the pricey side. Liked the hot rolls provided with the meal. Wonderful views of the lake and Malecon. NO LOUD MUSIC!

Just a very nice, well prepared and served meal and evening. Fillet, tuna, 2 glasses of white, two of red came to 500 pesos with tip. As noted, not the cheapest, not the most expensive but a very nice mid-priced dining experience. Highly recommended!

Good choice. So is lunch and dinner there. Try the Taco salad at lunch. Like no taco salad you've had before. lol. But really good. Choice of beef, chicken or shrimp. The only beans are underneath the shell to hold it in place.

Yves makes the best dry vodka martini at Lakeside. Properly chilled served straight up and a fine experience on his outside patio overlooking the lake. Reminiscent of sunny, breezy afternoons in the San Frnacisco Financial District bending elbows with bankers, stockbrokers and attorneys less inclined to plotting against clients when drinking and playing liars´ dice.

A PROPER DAWG VODKA MARTINI
*One´s favorite premium vodka - Stoli is a good choice -from a bottle that has been reposing in the frreezer for at least several hours.
* Martini glasses also from the freezer.
* Lemon peel which has been rubbed around the rim of the martini glass.
* A small Italian- or Spanish style wine glass filled with chilled M&R Dry Vermouth.

Drink the "frozen" vodka occasionally chasing with the vermouth (optional).

This is not consistent with Yves´ martini nor most restaurant style martinis. Yves´ martini is chilled by stirring in a shaker and includes a small amount of vermouth but they are very good.
