Costco Jenn-Air BBQ?

As a followup, even though my promised phone call from Lowe's never came, I was there today picking up garden supplies and stopped to see my buddy. Turns out that they will give me the grates off of their floor model at N/C. They earned a certain amount of respect from me but not enough to get me to purchase another BBQ because I simply don't care for the models they are selling.

I suggest have someone custom-build you one.999.00 will go quite aways in these economicily depressed times. I had mine built for me to my specs...I am in US....It can be done. Good luck

An interesting suggestion that I had not thought of! In preparation to moving to a more permanent residence, I have been doing a good deal of research on having a custom built combination pizza/bread oven, tandoor oven and smoker but had not thought of tying in a BBQ. While I can find some great options for what I wanted to do, adding a BBQ might be too "Rube Goldberg"!

Naah. If you're going to do the building thing.........do it up right and include the barbeque...........Your friends will be in awe as you flip the steaks on this Taj Mahal of outdoor appliances.

I actually have experience cooking on something very similar to the Green Egg about 25 years ago. It was absolutely great for slow cooking brisket, chickens, small turkeys, fish, etc. The smoky flavor from the charcoal couldn't be beat but when one cooks easily five nights a week on the barbie, there are certain advantages to having a gas BBQ. My tendency is to do more basic and easier prep items during the week and then on weekends to get more elaborate with my preparations.

Even though I have not received any comments or personal experiences on the Jenn-Air BBQ, I am currently headed in that direction. The reviews on outside websites have been decent and I know that Costco will stand behind any problems.

Went to Costco Sunday and the Jenn air looked best quality wise compared
to some of the other brands they had on display. The grills themselves
were very high quality stainless and strong.

Before we moved to Mexico the first time we bought the most expensive Jenn-Air BBQ that Home Depot sells. It had the rotissarie (I have no idea how to spell that). warming plate, automatic starter,etc. That may be the kind you are looking for at Costco.
Ours was excellent. We had it about three years until we decided to move and sold it to a friend. No rust ever occurred, and never had a bit of trouble.. The steel was heavy duty gauge not the cheap Chinese I keep reading about on this forum. If you can find it at Home Depot or at Costco, I'd highly recommend it, as we had absolutely no trouble and it did and marvelous job cooking.

I want to thank everyone for their comments and observations. The decision has been made but not consummated as yet. We are going with the Jenn-Air from Costco.

Went to Costco today to check out another BBQ by Grand Hall that they had just put on sale for $200 off making it the same price as the Jenn-Air. Under some scrutiny I felt it was too light of construction and the manufacturer name hadn't checked out all that well. At the particular Costco, I went to, they were down to the display model and checked the other stores for me. One was totally out and the other had four. It was then that I realized that the display model had a new price - $449.88 or $250.11 off. Way too good of a deal to pass up and besides it was all assembled! SOLD

Brings a tear to my eye. I left one very similar to this with my son in Vancouver.

Raises the point. Is it worth hauling a grill down there or buy one there? I can get a new Ducane (now made by Weber) here for free right now.

It's a tossup. Free is free.........but those moving costs are a killer. There's every kind of grill down here from the basic Mexican marvel of simplicity to as fancy as you want to go. (Marvel of simplicity: around 250 pesos; various levels, cheapo iron, charcoal used but the results can smell and taste marvelous.)

Having hauled two SS BBQ's and one smoker down for other people in our van, I tend to recommend taking your favorite one down with you. If it is a gas one, then it is not advisable to attempt to bring down the tanks. The military and Federale checkpoints view these as a probable suspicious container since they were being used by cartel money mules. An empty propane tank can hold one heck of a bunch of $100 bills!

Yep thats the one I saw. You are a lucky dude. No assembly and an excellent
price. Folks remember when comparing prices to remove 18.5% for the IVA
tax when comparing NOB prices.

Yeah, but: Many states levy a hefty sales tax, so don't forget to put that into the calculation.

Right but nobody I knows calculates the sales tax when doing comparisons. I find because we forget that
everything is pretaxed here that people compare apples to oranges sometimes. In other words his price
was actually 18.5% less which makes it an even better deal about $370 without the tax. Of course I am
assuming he included the IVA tax in his price.

Since the tax issue was raised, we paid 7% sales tax or $31.49.

After a bunch of jockeying around getting the old one out through our townhouse and the new one back in - it was time for the first test last night - two prime Costco boneless ribeye steaks. Having never seared using an infrared ceramic searing burner, I read up on the recommended procedure - a one to two minute sear on each side before transferring to the regular grill. The regular grill section was 620 degrees by the time I transferred the steaks. Probably the most juicy and flavorful steaks we have eaten in a long time!

There will definitely be a learning curve with a BBQ that heats up the way it is designed! Tonight, it is going to be Tandoori Chicken.
