hotmail, anyone having problems? Empty hotmail, anyone having problems?

Neither of ours work. One person in Ajijic said his didn't either, somebody else said theirs did. What's happening and how do we fix it? Any geeks out there who know?

It's been a little wonky lately, but mine is working and has been. All 3 accounts.

It's not Hotmail anymore, btw, it's Outlook and maybe you need to convert?

It's outlook.com, and your hotmail still works there. Although it's a golden opportunity to get a better email name, if you want one.

IMO, Hotmail, Yahoo and AOL had their time in the sun and it was their choice not to stay with the program!

Now for a real classic, I was reading an article the other day about people with cards set up for autopay who are still paying for AOL dial up service and don't realize it!

So, what is the best choice now? I don't like gmail or yahoo either.

My big gripe is that the fargin bastages put out a notice that all was well when it wasn't. Lie to me once and it is game over.

Bastage? I thought I came up with that in Ottawa...

Asking which is "better" can unfortunately bring no simple answer. Would the best one be the most secure? In that case, GMail wins hands down. Would it be the easiest to use and the most pleasing to the eye? In that case, GMail loses handily. I think the new Outlook format, like most everything in Windows 8 (wait until you see Office 2013) absolutely blows.

Everything is a muted colour, making it difficult to distinguish one thing from another. Key action icons are "consolidated" for a clean look, but the effect to the user is that everything is just bloody hidden. They use Java for animation and actions, and it is clunky, slow, out of date. And it takes up too much screen room.

There are a few other webmail services out there: web2mail, zimbra, zzn, Juno, GMX, and others. (GMX is pretty nice, the closest to the look of Yahoo, and without the damned ads and social-networking crap.)

But you won't get satisfaction unless you install an email client, like Windows Mail, PostBox, Thunderbird, and the like. The problem with using a client is, you can't log in from wherever in the world you happen to be.

Thx, I'll stick with Gmail. Apparently, I've lost my soul to Google anyways.

Kathy has/had a Hotmail account that was problematic. I was able to log in and set up forwarding to a special Gmail account just for this purpose. For whatever reason, the emails get forwarded even when Hotmail is having access issues.

I would never use an email client like outlook or thunderbird.

The problem with clients is that they download all your email before you have a chance to find out if they have anything undesirable attached, and kill the spam etc.

I will only use an email where I have to check it online before I download it. I have not had a virus or anything like one in years.

This was a tip from an ISP, who provides email, many years ago. Their email was accessible from the web as well as via a client.

Hotmail has a number of account types you can use, hotmail.com, live.com, rocketmail.com, hotmail.ca and more

While I appreciate the foresight, I have to tell you that checking your email online before downloading it is akin to washing the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.

And unfortunately, anything that can get at you via an email client can actually more easily get at you through an online webmail page.

Since the concept of being attacked by an email upon opening is pretty much non-existent, as long as one doesn't clink on any links or programs in an email, then everything will be just fine.

Hotmail and Yahoo mail are the absolute worst offenders in the known universes for being compromised.
