SUPER LAKE HAS BAKERS
Just picked up 4 large ones, and they are in good shape. Cost 19.90 kg., and probably won't last long. Perfect NEW YEARS DAY fix. Brought a large prime rib back from US..... HAPPY NEW YEAR all.

Uh, could it be that the assumption was based on the way they LOOKED?

I thought you were talking about bread. I saw them there Friday, filthy dirty and all. I don't know if they're Idahos, but assume so.

They are indeed russet potatoes but from Sonora.

Re: SUPER LAKE HAS BAKERS
Pancho used to get Idaho but the duties were so high that the customers complained. He subsequently found a source for the Sonora grown spuds which are mostly exported to the USA!

Re: SUPER LAKE HAS BAKERS
I think they serve those at Tony's. They have very tasty skins, but are a little more moist in the middle than russets, whose main life purpose is as a vehicle for sour cream and butter.

Does anyone have a clue as to what kind of potato Bruno's serves or are they Sonoran Russets.

Re: SUPER LAKE HAS BAKERS
Why couldn't we grow them here??? Watch out the leaves and vines can be
nasty but I think we have the weather. Cut up a russet treat with a little anti
fungal stuff and plop in the ground in a small mound of dirt.
Is this one of those NOB things that doesn't grow here??

Whats wrong with the climate? Could you explain what is wrong?
I have an empty lot in Ajijic that we are going to plant a garden
so any info would help.
I do have sand to cut some of the soil and add some loam to it.
Near as I see it PH between 5 and 6. I don't remember the soil
of Maine inland where they grow russets to be very good. I think
I can make the soil with a raised bed. What am I missing?
My wife is a master gardener so we do have some experience and I
farmed vegtables and grains to put myself through school.
Thinking of trying to raise some uber sweet corn varieties also but
I have my doubts about Corn.

Tomatoes do poorly here. Tomatoes like heat but need humidity too. Getting good soil is a major problem here.

Re: SUPER LAKE HAS BAKERS
I wonder if "hydroponics" would work with potatoes??? I know they work with tomatoes.
Re: SUPER LAKE HAS BAKERS
CB:
Back in a previous life, I played around with hydroponics and growing tomatoes. I would guess that it wouldn't work for potatoes because of the wet growing environment and absence of soil?

Don't most of the tomatoes here come from Joco? Or what do they grow in Joco?

Jocotepec and the south side of the lake grow primarily berries.

Need to put caps on spuds to prevent sun scald (greening). I think you can grow most everything hydroponically but is it practical.

Re: SUPER LAKE HAS BAKERS
Tried some. Pretty good but it seems we had to cook them longer than normal for
Russets. Salt and pepper and a little good butter. Yummy even the skin. FYI wash
them they are very dirty before you cook if you want to eat the skins which to
me is the best part.
