Bell Empty Bell

Post by SunFan Fri Aug 30, 2013 8:23 pm

I've just retired my second electronic door bell in fourteen months. The rain seems to kill the exposed transmitters.

Where can I buy a good old fashioned brass/bronze bell...about 10 or 12 inches in diameter. I have the perfect location above the front gate.

Thanks in advance.

Just make sure that nice bell is not in a location where it can be stolen. That has happened to several friends of mine.

No problemo. It will be 12 to 14 feet above the ground. A street light outside and 4 video cameras mounted. Don't want anything too large to disturb the neighbours (sp). Ah yes another Canuck.

Exactly. The bell would hang in an alcove above the entrance gate. The gate (and bell) would be protected from above by downward facing spikes. There is a French name for that spike configuration that escapes me at the moment.

Well, it sure seems that you did not get much help in locating a bell. They turn up in various places, but the only two places I can think of with some reliability are ....

The Sunday Antique Market which is in Guad on Ave Mexico, in the center section of the street. The district is Chapultepec and near the Bodega (smaller Wallmart store).

The other place is a store in Tlacapaque. It is at the end of the main pedestrian street very near where it meets Ninos Heros (I believe I have the correct name). It's the only real store I know of that has brass bells regularly. They are nice, but pricy.

Buena suarte....

I have occasionally seen old brass bells for sale at the Wednesday market in Ajijic. Usually down at the end where people are selling all sorts of old/used items.
