Hole in the wall scheudle?
Does anyone know what nights the whole in the wall (that we used call, The Tamale Ladies) serves tamales? This is the hard to find restaurant on Ocampo just west of Seis Esquinos.
Thanks,
Michael

Are you talking about the place, just west of Aquiles Serdan on Hidalgo, that is now closed? They had great tamales.

Nope. This place was going on when I was first here in '96. Dirt floor and no roof. West of Seis Esquinas on Ocampo.

Closed for nearly a year, and they were one of the best local places.

Are you sure about the location? The one I remember that was called "the hole in the wall" was on Hidalgo, just west of Aquiles Serdan, and not west of seis esquinas. Maybe I'm not remembering well.

You could go to The Festival del Tamal San Juan Evangelista it is only 1/2 hour away and it is today and tomorrow.

Slainte, I may have the name wrong, but not the location 'cause I was there during the day. As I say, we used to refer to them as the tamale ladies. 'm going to go there this afternoon and will report.
Spot, I noticed the festival, but I don't have a car, but thanks.

OK, so I did get the street wrong - Hidalgo, not Ocampo, so Slainte, a tip of the sombrero.
Here's the blurb:
Hole in the Wall (No Name)
Christened with several names over the years, “Hole in the Wall” seems to have stuck for this very rustic village house that serves up tamales, empanadas, and beer and wine from the fridge. The project of three local women, Monday night is popular with gringos. Be sure to have the address in hand. It’s hard to find, but a great “dear diary” entry! No bathroom.
Open Mon 5:30 – 9 p.m., Tues 7:30 –10 p.m.; Sat 7 – 10 p.m.
Hidalgo #96.

Re: Hole in the wall scheudle?
Slainte39 was completely correct and I was totally wrong. His location was correct and they closed 4 months ago. According to a local señora I spoke with there are tamales available on the street by that very same corner. Will check them out and report.
Re: Hole in the wall scheudle?
OK, I know,I know,
There's tamales on Ocampo about 80 meters past seis esquinos on Saturday evenings. Had some and they're great.

Re: Hole in the wall scheudle?
I went to San Juan Evangelista today and the tamales were good. The ladies there are amazing!
The artisans were out selling stuff too!!
Never knew there were soooo many different kinds of tamlaes!!
I hope they do it again next year!
