Military/Federale Checkpoint on Libramiento
There's a checkpoint at the CFE on the libramiento right now...not sure what's going on but since El Chapo has been captured it should be interesting.
My husband says there was a line, things were moving slower and they were patting down youth that were in a car.

There have been lots of sirens over the past couple of days on the carretera going through Ajijic. Anyone know what's going on? Are these things related? Curious minds want to know...

I don't know about the sirens but the checkpoint is back this morning. My husband said they smiled and waved him through.

In la Floresta, they had stopped a dark grey sedan. The trunk appeared to be filled with a large number of packages, all wrapped in green garbage bags.

Re: Military/Federale Checkpoint on Libramiento
I wish I could figure out how to upload a picture from my own files. We were waiting for the bus at the corner by Black Coffee today and 4 trucks with federales drove down from the Libramiento. Some turned towards Ajijic and the rest went down into San Antonio. When we drove by on the bus, they had stopped a car and had it surrounded, there were police on the other side of the street with automatic weapons on the lookout. I have pictures I took when we were driving by but can't get them to upload or I would share them with you all.

TTT:
Have you read the following instructions posted by CB?
https://www.insidelakeside.com/t874-posting-a-picture-instructions
Since most of our photos are way too big, I personally find that reducing a photo to 800 width for a standard photo or a 600 width for an upright photo and then saving to my desktop makes the process go smoothly and takes less time to upload using the forum photo posting option.

Sometimes you see the police doing things here. Including their job.
When you passed them doing their job where you used to live, did you always follow up on an internet message board to determine exactly what had happened?

Re: Military/Federale Checkpoint on Libramiento
Well, yes I want to know what is going on when it is local, and when a major crime has occurred. We owned a business and I was concerned about crime committed on neighboring businesses.
On New Year' eve, I had taken my brother and his wife for dinner and we got out so late that we missed the buses and could not find a taxi, so were walking home. The policia followed us for a while, then stopped beside us and asked if they could take us home, for our safety.
I think that, like back home, there are some bad cops, but most of them are the good guys and I respect the hard, dangerous job that they do.

By the way...it is not inappropriate to to give the police a tip when they help you out like that.
I had to go to Farmacia Guadalajara one night at like 3:00 a.m. and ran out of gas on the way home. The police helped me out and my husband gave them a little $, they appreciated it.

Re: Military/Federale Checkpoint on Libramiento
Yes, we did that too. My husband gave them some money and told them to have a couple of cups of coffee as our thanks. Plus, my brother was thrilled to tell his children that he rode home on New Year's Eve in a Mexican police truck!
I think it is right to be as supportive of local law enforcement here as we are at home. I believe that, for the most part, they are trying to be the good guys. And, they have a very dangerous job.

I agree 100%. Do not make it obvious or cause problems for them, but they do not make much money, and any little bit does help. It also demonstrates appreciation for who they are and what they do.

Ditto
I often wonder which service oriented working people deserve tips more than the other....waiters or police?
Oh I know.....police get paid to do their job and we hardly use them.

Re: Military/Federale Checkpoint on Libramiento
Please explain, slainte39. A waiter's job is in no way equivalent to a policeman's. Perhaps I misunderstand you. "Service oriented working people" sounds rather dismissive and disrespectful of working people in general, and the local working people specifically.
Which one deserves tips more than the other? Why choose? How about tipping them both when they provide you with good service? We expats need all the good will and positive PR we can generate to offset the behavior of the rubes among us.

Re: Military/Federale Checkpoint on Libramiento
if someone goes out of their way to help you a tip maybe in order, such as the cops giving you a lift home. a waiter is paid to serve you food and drink, unless he does something especial . no tip. simple.

It's not their job to go to my house, get a gas can from my husband, fill it with gas, return to where I am ( sitting in front of the Vela staring at the bullet holes in the Muro at 3:00 a.m.) , put gas in my tank , and escort me home. They were nice, we gave them a small gift...a thank you.
