COMPLETELY agree Jim. If I ever end up in a nursing home...I sure hope it's in Mexico. NOB old people become invisible.

Respect is something that you earn, It does not come automatically with age.
If this "idiot" can not come forward and accept the consequences of his actions, then he has lived a life that I would not choose.
I make many mistakes, but I admit to them.  Beer

Why is it that some people always believe the perpetrator deserves sympathy? The poor guy finally was able to buy a new car and gets creamed and he shouldn't report it? Are you for real? Are you the law breaker we are discussing?

I do know that in mexico- mexican senior citizens are not treated too kind.

Sometimes the needs of the entire community - safety in walking and driving - trump the desires of one individual.

Yeah...like the freedom to do what? Age is not a license.
An unbelievable justification for bad behavior.

At my age (so that gives me a vote), if I behaved like that, I hope someone would have me euthanized.

I doubt we would euthanize you, Slainte--but we might slap you around a bit.  Very Happy

Luisa, this fugitive/victim (depending on your point of view) is still on the run. No-one has identified him and my friend has not heard of anyone visiting the Ministerio Publico to admit their involvement.

I am amazed that no one reading these boards know who he is and/or if they do, offer the info to the victim. I certainly would.

Somebody may have done so, and the perp is probably hiding at home with his vehicle hidden in the garage. Some grocery stores deliver.
Or, maybe he has decided to brave the hot and humid for an extended stay at an all inclusive beach resort.
Who knows?

I am also amazed, and I agree--I would let TrueBrit know right away.

I would hope that it could be settled without the involvement of the MP. The guy just needs to either pay up or get his insurance company to do it.

This presumes he has insurance. It was stated that he offered to pay $1000.00 pesos but it was refused. How mush was the estimate for repair? I would imagine he is terrified with the prospect of being incarcerated until a satisfactory solution can be worked out.

Undoubtably, part of EPN's strategy of under reporting crime. Rolling Eyes

I know our insurance on a new vehicle purchased in Guadalajara had a 5% deductible of the invoice. So let's say it was a new car that cost $200,000 pesos. The deductible would be $10,000 pesos. I think this is pretty standard insurance on a Mexican-plated vehicle. $1,000 is not going to cover the deductible. Chances are very good that the new car cost more than $200,000 pesos ($15,500 USD more or less).
