I know our insurance on a new vehicle purchased in Guadalajara had a 5% deductible of the invoice. So let's say it was a new car that cost $200,000 pesos. The deductible would be $10,000 pesos. I think this is pretty standard insurance on a Mexican-plated vehicle. $1,000 is not going to cover the deductible. Chances are very good that the new car cost more than $200,000 pesos ($15,500 USD more or less).

Me too. Because I think I occasionally see the alleged person responsible and in the picture. However, I don't know his name or the type of car the person drives, whom I think may be the person in the picture.

Why do you need to see the pictures? The man was involved in an accident and he did not stay until the insurance reps and transit police could come to a resolution. The damage and the fault are not the issue. The responsibility to another person is the issue.

Got a bunch of whiners making the wrongdoer the victim. Gringos have become a society of victims and excuses. Responsibility is a lost concept. (And I am a liberal thinker through and through)

Re: If you know this man...
I think the damaged vehicle could readily be seen by the Vialidad, curious onlookers, or anyone else with an interest in the affair.
Not so much so, the driver of the other vehicle.
Whether or not the owner of the damaged vehicle wants to post a photo of the damage should be his decision and not because of the demand of some reader on the board.

Pete, how will a picture of the damaged vehicle help you identify the suspected wrong-doer?

It's the clarvoyant solution to the problem, but he would do better if he could touch the damaged vehicle. ....Right Pete?

Good question. And I don't need to see one. . I would just like to know if this was a small scratch that $1000 pesos would have taken care of or not. Maybe the owner could explain how much it cost to repair the damage.

Re: If you know this man...
No, it's not the owner's responsibility to explain anything to us. Why are we so ready to look for an excuse for the old coot's behavior? A man bought a new car. A week later his car was involved in an accident with a man who refused to wait for the insurance agents. I have no sympathy at all for the old coot.

Two issues have been brought to the jurors on this board.
1. Who done it?
2. What was done?
So far neither has been resolved.

Re: If you know this man...
there is a picture of the a-hole and his car and it has been established by more than one witness what he did. so it has been resolved as to your #1 and 2. what hasn't been resolved is that the MP has not caught him yet and clapped him in irons.

Re: If you know this man...
No, Oso, you are wrong. Let me remind you of what the OP brought before the board:
"My friend wanted to call the police and insurance administrators to sort it out. Apparently at the mention of insurance, this man returned to his car, made some unfortunately disparaging remarks about Mexicans (my friend is Mexican) and tried to drive away. My friend then took these photos, tried to stand in his way but he drove off.
My friend then went to the Minesterio Publico to file a complaint. They would like to interview this gentleman. He may not know that this complaint has been filed, so it would be in his best interest to visit them and sort it out.
So if you know this man, perhaps you could advise him to visit the Ministerio in Chapala.
You are not being asked to sort anything out. The Ministerio Publico will do that.

Re: If you know this man...
I understand your points. But as of this posting, the board does not know who he is nor how much damage was done. That was my point.

Re: If you know this man...
Then maybe it is a good time to stop beating the dead horse and let the proper folks sort it out and resolve it. No one seems to know who he is, or will admit to knowing (which is cool), and if they do know who he is, it is really not the "discussion threads" business, but is now the authority's business. What damage he did is not our business, but, again, needs to be resolved, at this point, by the authorities. Us folks are really bored and desperate for something to do to be in the middle of this discussion (myself included).

Re: If you know this man...
And, my point was that people were asked to let the man know he needs to talk with MP before they find him. That was the point of the OP. I have yet to see posters tell other posters to stop talking about something and had it do any good. It will eventually run out of fuel and die out. That process is sped up when those who are tired of the discussion stop commenting on the thread. And, yet, here we all are.

I would point out that one doesn't usually take a new vehicle to Billy Bob's Body and Bait Shop. You take it to the dealer so the dent or scratch won't show. And dealers charge more.

And Lady Otter's point was that you don't need to know how much damage was done. This was reported to the MP, so I'm assuming they saw the amount of damage and considered it sufficient to accept the filed complaint.
You also don't need to know who he is. The idea was that if anyone DOES know who he is, they should remind him of his responsibility and let him know the MP wants to talk to him.
That's the legal aspect. But I'll admit that for me there is also a human aspect that bothers me greatly. We DO know that the guy hurled racial insults, declared himself above the law, and evaded his clear ETHICAL responsibility to come to an agreement with the other party. I know the guy this happened to. If the perpetrator had apologized, admitted to being uninsured, and offered to come to an off-the-record agreement, I can't imagine the victim refusing to cooperate. So I don't understand the people whose outrage is reserved for the VICTIM.

Sam: I agree with your points and would add that the board has only been informed of one side of the story.

Ok, this topic has run it's course and is just turning into a circular argument. If you know who it is, do the right thing!!!
Re: If you know this man...
Truebrit, I sent you a PM regarding the ID of this fellow. I received the info from an anonymous source and told them I would pass it along.
