Mazamitla safe?

I heard a roomer that Mazamitla is not safe these days due to drug activity. Has anyone heard the same or anything to the contrary?

my moto buddies ride up there a lot. no problema.

Going daytime weekends no problem

Me and my moto buddies ride up there a lot as well. Going this weekend.

It is a great "ride to eat" moto excursion.

Expanding on the question, is it a good option to go there for an overnight trip? Just want to drive over and look around without feeling rushed, so we're considering staying one night near Centro. Thoughts appreciated.

You should have no problem getting a hotel room if you go during the week, but not this week of course. They are much more likely to be booked up on the weekends.

That's what we do.
Anyone going to Mazamitla should check out the Ruta Eco- Turistico Sierra del Tigre,it's a very nice scenic drive.
We usually go into town in the morning and get a couple of orders of the excellent birria to go and re-heat them at a mirador/look out point on the Sierra del Tigre.

Thanks for the info. No, we weren't considering going this week(end)... just sometime in the future. Will check into it more.

There's a very nice casa de campo outside of Mazamitla that features a scale model of a Cessna over the entrance,just like the one Pablo Escobar had at one of his ranches in Colombia,it's not hard to figure out where the money for that property came from...
