Mail Box Empty Mail Box

Post by CalgaryBoy Thu Oct 30, 2014 3:30 pm

I have just arrived at Lakeside and would like to know if Mail Box or similar companies allow you to share a box with someone. If so does anyone have a box they would like to share for 6 months. Please advise.

As far as I know the only company that still allows sharing of mailboxes is iShip or iShop,(?) whatever their name is. They are near HSBC across the Caraterra from Walmart.

iShop is the new Mailbox etc. They changed names and moved there quite a few months ago.

I had read in another thread, which I cannot find now, that there is postal mail delivery to your home. Is this true? I didn't think there was such a thing here.

Yes there is postal delivery right to your house or front gate if you are behind the walls in a gated community.

Thanx Bob. Is there drawbacks to using that vs the other mail systems I read about?

It's all about time and cost.
It's called snail mail for a reason. Beer

Oh I am familiar with the snail mail Zenwoodle!

If all I need is plain old mail delivery, why would I pay another service like Handy Mail, to bring my mail two times a week and then I have to go get it? I am just to get all of the facts, to weigh my decision which to use.

We have received snail mail from Canada that took months to get here, but it was just xmas cards, so who cares.
We have also had FEDEX and UPS delivery in a couple of days.
I do not see the point of these other "box" services, unless you are require frequent delivery.
But then again, I no longer see the need for mail delivery. Beer Beer

I also, but I still need a mail address for things like auto registration in the US, bank needs a US address. All else is done on the interweb.

I am confused, If you need a US address, what does that have to do with mail delivery in Mexico.
If you need it in a hurry, use FEDEX or UPS to get it here. Otherwise let USPS and the Mexican mail system deliver it.
As I said, it is cost vs time. Beer

I will use a relatives address for those two items and everything else I will use the regular mail. I was just trying to find out if there was any MAJOR problems with the MX mail delivery, and if there would have been, I would use something like Handy Mail for it all.

Paying for a mail box is a waste of money from my experience. Paying a couple hundred USD per year, @ handy mail was a waste....they are a good company, and their service was great! However, having my mail picked up, and forwarded via email is faster and much cheaper. As a fall back get a Mexican Lakeside PO BOX.

The only "MAJOR problem" we have had with home delivery is when letters are tossed over the fence in a rain storm. Usually they can be dried out but not always. The other temporary problem was when our puppy went through the "anything thrown over the wall is a toy for me - how nice" stage where all mail was partially eaten. She has grown up and no longer eats mail.

The problem I have in answering your question is what you define as regular mail, and what you would describe as a MAJOR problem.
If regular mail is the same kind of crap that I get in my mailbox in Canada, then I am definitely not going to pay to have it sent here.
If time is a MAJOR problem, then any kind of snail mail is dead in the water for me.
Adjust your thinking. If it is important, then electronic delivery is the best no matter where you live.
If it is not important, then who cares when it arrives.
Time vs cost.
You have to make the choice. Beer

The mail seems to be reliable but very slow. Anything I receive from Canada takes 3 to 8 weeks to get here. Anything I send to Canada (which is only important documents) I use a courier. Cost about $50 pesos for guaranteed 10 day delivery.

We've used Handymail for 7 years, almost problem free and a lot faster and more reliable than going through the Mexican PO.

We have been using the Mexican PO for 12 years now and have never lost a thing. We have our mail collected in Canada, then every 15 days sent to Mexico. Usual time to here is 15 to 20 days.

If you expect home delivery by the Mexican post office, be sure to buy a “buzon“ (mail box) at a hardware store and attach it to the front of your house. It is best to get one that accommodates a small padlock.
We received mail regularly at our home in Chapala for a decade.
