ARILEO new lunch menu (or brunch)
As of lunch time yesterday, we were shown a new brunch/lunch menu with many popular "lunch" items at greatly reduced prices. Our friend ordered a chicken sandwich which was so big that she took home half. 60 pesos. It came with fries. I didn't notice that my favorite item was also there and went ahead and ordered the filet brochette from the regular menu. That has two brochettes of beef for $125 including veggies, fries or sweet potato fries (or a combo). On the lunch menu, it was half the price and came with one brochette, which would have been plenty for me. I normally need a "para llevar" box on the full order.
Worth checking out. The food is consistently good there in spite of the many topes on the drive West from Ajijic. It's a nice place to eat during this warm weather: pleasantly cool under the high ceilings.
We split the creme brulee dessert and it WAS the real deal. Yum.

Just west of La Cristina (and the Pemex), but before Piedra Barrenada and all the restaurants joined together there. Sits on the lake (south) side of the highway....look for a sign with a "cabeza de toro" near the highway.

Thx. Could it be? There was a resto around about there on the south side up a little ramp/stairs. Nice space. Junky looking places adjacent. Out the back you looked out over fields and the lake and directly down on the old cobblestoned camino. Just adjacent, across the old camino, a church bell hangs from a tree to call the faithful. Poor parish - mass is celebrated across the old camino in a field. At that time, maybe 3 yrs. ago the owner was a retired cop (whatever that means in Mx.) and his senora rocked in the kitchen. Awesome omelettes. Beer and sodas. Could be the same place - OR NOT.

I don't think so. What you are describing sounds more like "Que Taco", which was in La Canacinta area. Arileo is further west with only one adjoining building on the west side and then open space both east and west.

Nope. Arileo is in a large brick building on the lake side. Before you get to the turnoff, there will be a small sign on the mountain side to tell you how much further it is. This is a two storey building, so look for that. Some parking in front: more parking on the left side of the restaurant. As far as I know, it opened in this last year.

I don't think so, gringal, just single story with high ceiling.

You're right. However, it's a very large building which you'd figure was two storeys, looking at it from the road. That is probably the highest ceiling around here, barring churches.

We had dinner there last night. It was very good. 3 of us had steaks and 1 had salmon. The New York strip was perfect however the Rib Eyes were a little skinny and fatty. The salmon was awesome.
It is a bit pricier than Tangos however I think the superior atmosphere is worth the extra pesos. They also had prime rib, chicken and many other entrees. If you are looking for a premium steakhouse it is worth checking out.

Adding to that: tender and tasty beef brochettes; great sweet potato fries (actually healthy).
Lunch menu: humongous sandwiches at around 60 pesos.
Best quesadillas I've had in the area.
Triple yum award.

We had the prime rib there on Friday night. It was spectacular. It was easily as good as any we have had NOB. While it isnt cheap it is a nice treat. Reservations are good to ensure you get some. They ran out for the late arrivals.
Re: ARILEO new lunch menu (or brunch)
We have become regulars .... the food is consistently good and the prices aren't bad....
For Sunday Brunch Buffet... try Bamboos on the lake... very nice ...

Not bad compared to up north but 280 pesos is getting up there for this area. They still manage to pack the place so good on them.

Never had that prime rib dinner, but the last I read on their sandwich board, it included soup or salad and dessert.
The cheesecake is to live for. Had that once with a group and four forks to help eat the huge slice.
Most steak entrees are around $150 pesos; salmon is my spouse's favorite and is $155 at lunch (or dinner?) Large servings of each. My favorite is the beef filet brochette at around $145. Very tender and flavorfull.

It's in that row of seafood restaurants, going west near the Racquet Club.

Being part of a family of retired sheep ranchers, I took a chance and ordered Arileo's filet of lamb. Shock. It was not only good IMHO, but found favor with the person at our table most likely to find fault with it AND was that person's choice the next time we headed over to Arileo.

Re: ARILEO new lunch menu (or brunch)
Had a nice dinner at Arileo, like the atmosphere and the high ceilings. A little pricey but not insane. BTW - we liked the red wine so well, we wrote down the name, vintage, vineyard: 230 pesos at Arileo, 85 pesos at La Paz. Still tastes good at home but I have to wash the dishes afterwards :-)
The vacio was a perfectly nice hunk of steak BUT not the awe-inspiring, must-have-again taste that I remember. Don't know if it was me, or the cut of steak. Has anybody who has tried Arileo, found a better vacio elsewhere? If so, where?
