Sparks is r¡ght, Almost any Charro shop will either have one or tell you where to get one. There is (was) one in Plaza del Sol, corner of Lopez Mateos and Mariano Otero. Also, San Juan de Dios/Libertad market has tons.  I think that is where Gringal bought hers....

Oh yes, those old fashioned hardware/general stores may carry them locally. Places that look like this:

Well, to whip this thread back on topic, if you are trying to avoid a trip to
Guad., I would go to Jocotepec and start asking around at the hardware, feed stores, leather shops (if any) or any business that does agricultural business with the campesinos, ganaderos type of clientele, and I'm sure someone will come up with something. Have some birria around the plaza while you are there and ask any of the "big hats" eating there, if they know of a place that sells them,
Maybe even the leather shop on the Carretera in Ajijic might make you one on special order.

I was also thinking the leather shop in Ajijic. If he can't make one I'm sure he would know where to get one.

Closer to home, try the cowboy or Vaquero store at Vicente (Chente) Fernandez's Ranch, "Los 3 Potrillos" on the highway just outside Chapala coming from the airport.
I hear they conduct tours of the place now. Used to be that he was very private, and only had a small store outside the walls. Things change!
