Problems with SKYPE and Landlines calling U.S.

I have tried both Skype and my Mx landline to call several phone #s in the U.S. (government) and I get messages through Skype that the numbers don't exist and the same with the Mx. Landline.

Anyone know what's happening?

Either numbers don't exist or, more likely, you're not entering the number correctly.

Or....you may be trying to call 800 numbers, which will not work from Mexico. Use regular numbers.

MagicJack does allow you to call 800 numbers from Mexico. All my banks and credit cards use 800 numbers. I don't suggest that MagicJack is good or better than any other choice....just that it allows 800 numbers.

Or Vonage.

I was calling on my international plan and it has worked well for 5+ years. I was calling government offices in the U.S. The message I got was in English saying the number was no longer in service. I called several other government numbers and got the same thing, etc.

after about 15 minutes, , it started working OK.

Probably will never know but it did happen. Maybe crossed lines, something blocking something, etc.

Maybe overloaded.

Dial 0 and ask Edith to connect you to the party you wish to speak with.
