Re: legalize an american car
Do you mean legally legalize, illegally legalize, pretend to legalize, make it look like it's legalized so that you have plausible deniability if you get in trouble or just take your money and disappear legalize?

If you do a search here and on TOB you will find pages and pages of "valuable" information and end up still having no idea what if anything you can do. We are making jokes because this discussion has gone on literally for years. It does not matter what anyone says, several other someones will tell you the exact opposite. You will go around and around and back and forth and either wisely forget about it or pick one of the options you are offered. You will then go on to experience various levels of hell, have a perfectly legal car according to the person you gave money to or end up in a legal mess.

IF the USA car qualifies for importing, than a Mexican citizen can import that car and get Mexican State registration for that car. It is not hard to do, you just have to go thru a process at the border and pay taxes and fees.

Re: legalize an american car
New USA procedure is you have to go to US with car and get an export license or the Mexicans will not accept the car for whatever they do to make it legal. This is fairly new thang.
No one is laughing at you we are laughing at the whole process as you will discover.

Re: legalize an american car
It is a giggleable subject.....no question.
The answer many people finally come up with to avoid getting taken to the cleaners is to get someone who's making a sideline of it and has a good reputation (like Playaboy) to take your car off your hands and sell it in the U.S. You then proceed to buy yourself a Mexican plated car, preferable one born in Mexico. Prices on some of the smaller cars are reasonable enough. I'd recommend checking out S&S auto in the lakeside area.
There: you got a serious answer.

What is so hard about importing a qualified car? Have any of you posters gone thru the process?
The process is very easy. It is not a "do it yourself" process. You hire a broker at the border and they do all the work. If you do it correctly (hire a broker at the border) you don't even have to understand the export/import process. While the broker do their job, you shop and eat in the USA for a 2-3 days.
What is so difficult about that?
DO NOT GIVE ANYONE MONEY TO IMPORT YOUR CAR FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR HOME. It can not be done. Lots of suckers Lakeside paid big bucks for false papers and ended up with NOTHING.

No, they are not. Just another fraud.
I should have written "get ANY Mexican state registration". Sorry for the confusion.

Muchos gracias Z and everyone else for continuing to regurgitate the difficulties and many false facts regarding importing a car. Just keep posting, scaring people and pointing them straight toward me.

So, where would the OP begin in the legalization process as it stands today, Playaboy?

Do you comprehend what you read? I posted the answer to your question twice in this thread. Here it is again.
The only place it has ever been legal, in the USA using a customs broker.

Here is an old blog post from Intercasa. Nothing has changed in the last 16 months.

You would need to talk to a car broker at the border to find out procedures for Canadian vehicles. I haven't figured out a way for me to deal with Canadian cars.

Re: legalize an american car
Your answer is great for people who know where and how to get in touch with a (good/honest) broker at the border. Hopefully the Intercasa link will give the OP a starting point in untangling the process which you find "simple" but which other people find daunting.

Life is too hard, wah wah wah
100's of cars are imported everyday. Everybody that goes thru the process finds it simple and easy. It is only a daunting endeavor on the message boards from posters who never leave home and have never imported anything. Like I said, the broker does everything while you get to shop and eat. How daunting is that?
Have you, or any other posters here that are full of import doom and gloom actually try to import anything legally? Anyone?

Re: legalize an american car
The OP is the one interested in importing a car. He is the one looking for a starting point. He is the one asking for someone to do it. I assume he was looking for more than any broker at the border can do it easy, simple.
Are you saying it has always been a simple easy process and all the people who went through varying circles of hell and lost thousands of pesos were just stupid? Or that they just made it all up?
