A question for discussion. What do you think if - -- -

an American/Canadian and their two children come into Mexico, either on a 180 day visa or just walk across the border to Tijuana.

Once in Mexico, they come to Chapala (or anyplace else in Mx.) and set up residence.

The people that received a 180 day visa overstay it and the other family just stays.

For some reason the Mx. government finds these families that are now in Mx. illegally.

What would the Mx. government do, or in the alterenative, what do you feel the Mx. government should do?

This is for a little brain stimulation.

Mexico is in the middle of the second immigration amnesty program in a few years.  Folks who have been here within the guidelines can now apply to get a Temporary Visa.  If people choose not to become legal when it is so easy why should they not be dealt with?  I thought this should be added to your questions as it shows a difference between US and Mexico in recent times. I believe no amnesty program has existed in US for quite a few years.  Am I wrong in this?? I also know Mexico changed the law for political refugees recently. My point is Mexico is changing and becoming more modern and fair regarding refugees. What is happening to US policies regarding immigration and political asylum?? Who knows??
