Warning - Increased Scams

Today we got an online application for a credit card from Banamex where we have an account. That application requested all sorts of personal information and we immediately deleted the post as we have not applied for a Banamex credit card.. This is the second time this has happened to us in a couple of weeks. The slimeballs are trying to con us all. Do not, under any circumstances, reply to unsolicited creit card offers and give them any information at all.

Here's another one for you: Got a call the other day (number on phone window) with a 331 prefix. Ignored it. Got another on the next day: dialed it and got a message to the effect that "the number you called is not available. It is restricted by the government"

Today my email had a message from the "IRS" in my SPAM folder.

They are everywhere.

So, I have to wonder just how someone acquired your emali, G-gal, or yours, Dawg... or for that matter, mine last month.
We have been sent forwards from friends who have neglected to use a blind carbon on occasion. (Some folks just don't seem to get it.) This is, at best, annoying.
In one worst case scenario.... someone hacked into one of our email accounts and proceeded to send particularly nasty messages to all our contacts.... who, for the most part, knew we would never do anything like that. Besides... we are much better acquainted with the English language than the numbskull who penned the poisonous missives.
There were one or two paranoid people, however, who took it to heart and required remedial responses from several sources before fences could be mended.
A few months earlier we were the recipients of a message from a person supposedly, "stranded in England, and in need of $$$ to get home."

One friend of mine had to change her whole email deal, thanks to a Nigerian scam asking for money to be sent since she and her husband were stranded in England after being robbed.
The worst part is that they were originally Brits, so it sounded possible.
Untangling that mess was great fun for them.

We just had some friends here going through the same thing this last week. My curiosity is, this is really come to the forefront, so recent, for so many?
