Post by coffeeguy Sun Jul 30, 2017 9:16 am

I recently stumbled on this extremely well-written blog by an expat living in Morelia. This particular post is a good antidote to the endless stream of articles promoting San Miguel, but her whole blog is well worth exploring and bookmarking.

Having lived in SMA for three years, I agree. However, lala is appealing to some folks. Happily, we're all different.

I fell in love with Santa Fe once too, in the late 80s, and almost moved there. Had job offers, friends, everything. Other things steered me in a different direction and it never happened. I too am grateful and agree it is much like SMA.

Yes, lots of similarities between SMA and Santa Fe, the most obvious of which are that the central area near the plaza of both places has become a Disneyland fit only for tourists, and that rich tourists and second home owners have so distorted the economy of both places that locals struggle to survive.

The interesting part about the blog I posted the link to is the comparison of SMA with Pátzcuaro, as well as a related post she has about why she chose Morelia over either place. With Lakeside and SMA so thoroughly over-run now (big new wave of newbies plus the much more impactful phenomenon of SMA having become mostly a Chilango playground while Lakeside has been absorbed as a southern suburb of Guad.) it may be time for some to look at other options.

Now if only Colima weren't so bloody hot.... Very Happy

It would be interesting to know the exact number of expats living here today. I believe the number declined from 2008 to 2014 or so. More people moved away (or passed away) than people moving here. I'm thinking we may just be back to 2007 numbers with maybe more full timers and less snowbirds......

She drove a convertible cadillac and was rude as hell to beggars..she also was a lawyer and a good writer..SHe used to be the moderator on Mexconnect way back then. She banned my husband because he called her la pianiste.. ( if you have seen that sick movie it was not a nice thing to say..) Funny you brought back lots of memories..

Yes, for me too!
MexConnect was my first connection to the area and I well remember Jennifer Rose, Michael D, and RVGringo. Not to mention the infamous Bubba.
Sure is different now!

I signed up with Mexconnect back in 2004, prior to moving to Mexico. I remember Rolly Brook's very informative input as well as the folks you mention. These days, it's not very active and I hear it's been for sale for some time.

Rolly was a great guy. He contributed a lot to this board too prior to his passing. He was my goto guy for all things Mexico....

Rolly was a gem. As is RVgringo. I just boil when MC and others put him down for no longer living here... as if all his experience just evaporated when he left.
Jennifer Rose... uh, wasn't she also connected to the International Living rag?

I'll say!
If it weren't for RVG I would have made a lot more mistakes, would know a lot less, and Dr Garcia wouldn't have saved my friend's life. Nor would I be working with him.

Thank you, RVG, I appreciate you.
