Re: New Lap top Ban from Mexico
It's not a laptop ban, it's enhanced screening of electronic devices including laptops.

Re: New Lap top Ban from Mexico
It will be interesting to find out just how "enhanced" this new screening will be.
As I read it, seems just having to remove the laptop or whatever from its case and put it in a separate plastic box at the X-ray.
If anyone knows more after today, would like to know the experiences.

Political Correctness. Don't want to offend anyone so they take it out on laptops. No one cares if laptops get offended.

Terrorists don't carry lap tops?
I know they don't carry ID's or signs around their neck, saying they are terrorists.
Laptops don't get offended and they don't self equip themselves with explosives.

I can see why for security reasons that equipment however.. I has items stolen from my checked suitcase in the past so will the airlines be responsable for that? I do not check my laptop because the handling of the bags can be really rough and things can disappear so that is the problem for me.

I'll find out tomorrow as I fly to Los Angeles (first time in 50 years.) I'm just bringing an Ipad, though.

Don't you remember this from a couple of months ago? Donald Trump was meeting with a bunch of Russian pals, he wanted to impress them with his knowledge of world affairs, so he told them of a Middle Eastern city where there was a workshop implanting explosives in laptops. Turns out this was supposed to be secret Israeli intel, and they were very upset because it exposed their operative, possibly costing that person their life.

You're bringing your Ipad INTO the US from GDL? Do let us know how that goes. Or maybe you're buying one there and bringing it back.
In any case, have a good trip. Oh yeah, let us know how LA is now too!

No, I'm bringing it TO LA. Thanks, I think this trip will be a lot of fun, seeing where I used to hang out in my misspent youth, my old apartment and the Airbnb I rented is in the same building where an old boyfriend used to live. Everyone I knew back then is dead now so my reputation won't precede me.

Re: New Lap top Ban from Mexico
hahaha whew. Safe to go back now!
I haven't been back to CA in 13 years, but would like to see my friends. Airbnb would be a way to go, staying with friends. . .but the BayA/Marin County has virtually non-exsistent public transport so would have to rent a car. Al that adds up to probably more than I want to spend for a Nostalgia Tour. Then I thought of renting a small motor home here, driving across the border (no TSA/HS) and just toodling around NorCal and killing two expenses with one solution.
Let us know your thoughts on CA and the TSA/HS crappola. Buen viaje.

Re: New Lap top Ban from Mexico
Trail runner, there are good deals on Airbnb. Sure beats the price of hotels. I will be in Santa Monica. I'm sure a lot has changed since the Summer of loooooove. I did rents a car and got the smallest and cheapest I could find. It's been too long since I did any freeway travel so I will avoid that. I watched too many road rage videos on YouTube.

The OP is a totally different story from this one. It's not a ban, like this one was, it's just enhanced security measures!

If you read the link in the OP's post it is 100% about the U.S. TSA ban and Mexico reacting to it and pertains only to travel from Mexico to the U.S. I look forward to the day that Mexico forges its own policy about this stuff but for now (and historically) they just react to whatever TSA is doing.

Re: New Lap top Ban from Mexico
There was never a "laptop ban" in/out of Mexico to/from the US. The US has tightened security requirements on electronic items on flights destined to land in the US from every country. Back in March the US did ban laptops on flights originating from 10 middle eastern countries. That order has since been rescinded.

Sorry, but you're wrong. This enhanced security pertains to travel to and through the U.S., from Canada or Mexico! The reason that story focused on the Mexico part, is because it was posted in a Mexican newspaper!
