pesos when visiting

My wife and I are coming to Lakeside for a visit. What is the best strategy for pesos - change them at the foreign exchange at the airport,k in town, use an ATM machine, etc.? I'll have some USD, Visa/MC, and debit card. I plan to call and let all the card companies know of my travel plans.

We always visited with just an ATM card. Maybe gets few thousand pesos ahead of time to pay the taxi and have some some pocket money for a couple of days. Yes, let your bank know.

Get pesos from ATM at airport on arrival. Then ATMs at Lakeside. ATMs give better rate than changing $USD.

With the airport construction going on inside the terminal at the moment I found most of the ATMs out of service when I was in there 6 nights ago so be aware of this possibility.

Don't some, or most, of the Oxxo's along the highway to Chapala have ATM's.  Might be easier to have the cab pull in there than doing it in the terminal.

I bet that might be a little intimidating in as much as the instructions are usually only in Spanish.

The ATMs in convenience stores charge absurdly high fees.

The easiest is to get a few thousand pesos before you leave home. Who cares if it costs 5 bucks more in exchange.........

I use Oxxo ATM's with All Points connectivity to Capital One.....no fees.

Which Oxxo? Most of these (Bannorte ATM connected to All Points) have disappeared at lakeside.

There are two on Terranova in GDL that I use, there are many others, just do a Google search.  The Oxxo in Ajijic used to, but I guess no longer.  CiBanco in SAT would be the cheapest ATM locally.

If Canadian you can purchase pesos onine from your bank. Pickup at your branch or have delivered to your door. Goodish rate and how's that for service?

Worst exchange rates are IMO, at the airport and Superlake.
