Just gave up on TOB

I suspect the Admin is out of town again and the board is down without his daily intervention to keep it running. Same thing seems to happen every holiday over there.........

It must be a long holiday this time around since it's been going up and down for weeks now.

I hate to say this, but I love both boards. I just do not read those topics that are not interesting including rants about how good the Trump is.

I agree, Pete! The more sources of info, the better. I just ignore the posts that are ignorant, no sweat, they just make me feel smart.

Unfortunately not too many newcomers seem to utilize TOB and is stagnating. They have flooded the facebook pages of which there seems to be a new 'special topic' one every day. Oh sometimes I long for the old Mexconnect.

Mexconnect is still there. But sadly gets maybe one or two posts per day, often made by a newbie who soon gives up and moves on.

My spouse and I joined Mexconnect back in 2003 or 2004 when we first get the wild idea of moving to Mexico. At the time, it was incredibly helpful, especially when Rolly Brook was still with us and had his full coverage site on everything Mexico to go to. The moderation was "fair and balanced" by capable people. As you mentioned, it's very lightly used these days.

I agree. We need both boards.

I agree with MexicoPete. I like both boards for the information they provide and just stay clear from the "rants".

As someone who is finally arriving for a permanent stay on Saturday, I must say both webboards have been enormously helpful to me in the last year of research and preparation. I greatly prefer the webboards to Facebook, but webboards are old technology used mainly by older people. Webboards make it harder to post without reading through a message stream (a common source of irrelevancy, repetion and nonsense on FB). Also, the norms of webboards were developed when people were pretty much expected to also use a search engine and do some homework before posting. In Facebook culture, responsible research is posting a question like "Where should I live in Mexico on my social security of $1200/month?" And people actually answer, or attempt to. The other thing that has frightened me about FB is the sheer number of newbies (hey! like me).

Anyway, thanks to the many of you I already know a little. I look forward to meeting you in person at some point. I plan to be recovered enough from estate sale, getting house ready for market, and flight in time to go to the Chapala tianguis on Monday. I will leave George at the Buenos Ayres, trying to become sentient, so you might see him there.

Not necessarily relevant, but have you noticed that some posters over there seem to list their life history for many inches on the left side under their "interests". What's with that?

I've read the "sound expert's" life history so often that I have it memorized. (and I only read it, every fourth publication)
