Pancho's Drive In
Apparently a white SUV turned Pancho's Deli into Pancho's Drive In.
Doesn't sound like there were injuries. Except for a few bouquets of flowers.

Hopefully the driver needs to submit to a medical exam before driving again.

Driver is 80 years old; she got "confused". What if there had been some children walking by at the time she got "confused". This person should never drive again. Driving is a privilege, not a right. Fuq the exam, shred the license.

Confused between forward and reverse?
If it wasn´t so potentially dangerous, it would be laughable.

....and the keys. Early dementia may have started, as such "confusion" is definitely not normal. Experienced drivers shift into the proper gear without needing to think about it; until something happens, causing them to have to think about it. That is the first hint of trouble.

Re: Pancho's Drive In
I've only too many times seen drivers start backing up in the Superlake parking lot with nary a sign of looking behind them first. This is a real hairy experience when you're right behind them with several more right behind you. At that point you can only hope that they aren't deaf as well as inattentive as you hit your horn.
Been lucky...so far.

And there's always the one going the wrong way on the lateral. I've seen that at SuperLake numerous times.
CBob always accuses me of driving like an old lady. I resent that. I drive like an old man who wants to grow even older.

Re: Pancho's Drive In
It looks to me she hit the gas in the wrong gear. I was parked where she was or right next to it earlier and that’s not a downhill slope plus she pushed over that red stanchion. It sure looks to me like wrong gear and stepped on the gas. I’m glad she didn’t hit the man selling Lebanese food or the lady selling truffles but maybe they were gone by then. Could have been much worse. I’m sure the attack will begin momentarily but I calls ‘em as I sees ‘em.

Yep, from the looks of all the Posts, it's a slow week at Lakeside.

Re: Pancho's Drive In
Salvadors had this happen more than once, and then put in barriers. No more problem.

Re: Pancho's Drive In
Pancho has barriers, front and back parking. They are metal and are set in concrete.
This car drove right over one.
I'm still scratching my head as to how this happened but this is a possibility...

I think they may need to be 3 ft tall spaced 2 feet apart and made of concrete for some of our drivers!

Re: Pancho's Drive In
Read the link gringal. Unintended acceleration is very real and has nothing to do with the driver.

Re: Pancho's Drive In
Unintended acceleration or not the gear stick should been in R not D.

Honda CR-V not mentioned in the Wikipedia piece. Would all apologists for bad drivers please collude so as to present as a unified body, if not a unified story, and save the rest of us a little unnecessary reading. Thanks.

Wow. Do try not to ASSUME anything or you may become an apologist to the unfortunate driver of the vehicle.

Re: Pancho's Drive In
You're post is nonsensical, but I'll do my best. One thing I'll never be is an apologist for a dangerous driver. You were the one who posited unintended acceleration as a possible mitigating factor here. I'd sooner believe that spontaneous human combustion was the cause of the mishap than I would that not one, but two factors, unrelated, need to be present to explain, in your view of things, what happened. You call the driver unfortunate (and therein lies the crux of my "apologist" comment), whereas I'd say she's in fact very fortunate for not having hurt anyone. Why is she deserving of everyone's sympathy? How about the next time she panics: things might not end so happily. She should not be driving.

Opinions are a dime a dozen. In your opinion facts should never get in the way of an opinion.
I will wait for the FACTS.

Maybe. But I refuse to contribute to the lynching that's happening on both forums.

Re: Pancho's Drive In
Well didn't it say somewhere in the original report that the woman admitted she was confused. No where did I see that she is claiming mechanical failure.
