Mérida

Anybody here ever live in Mérida?

before you ever think of moving there , go in July for a couple of weeks...

I know. I have, July '95. Brutal. Can it be managed with AC, fans . . .?

My son went there for vacation a year ago and liked it a lot. Lots of Euro expats, an international flavor. A/C is a must since hot/humid at times so Solar panels a definite plus to stay out of DAC. I would take a look.

I'm thinking the answer would be to keep my house here and come back for the rainy season here, instead of hot rainy season there.
It's beautiful there. Great food! So much culture.

If your son went a year ago t was way cooler than July.. Yes it can be managed with A/C.. They have special rates  in that area  for electricity  so it depends if you want several rooms cool or just the bedroom.

You can get used to the humidity and warm weather in the winter but why suffer through the hot weather.. get out if you can,,,

When I moved to the gulf in the US from France in July I thought  was going to die.. it got better around November and then the following year I did not turn the A/C that much  but I hated the humidity, the wet clothes in the morning, the smell of the books, the mildew etc..

I was down there 8 in the country around Uxmal  last March and it was plenty warm for me but not unbearable.yjr mornings were pleasant and I like the evenings until I have to go to bed...

If you ca escape the hot times, then you have no problems

Warm in March, Uggg. Yep, I hate humidity and all that too. Friends were there last August, said it was 107 and 100% humidity. And with climate change, everywhere is going to get hotter.

Just studied the climate, it would have to be 6 and 6 here and there. May thru Oct here and Nov thru April there.

They say that with climate change and water coming up Merida will be a beach town, if you live long enough you may see it happen Ha ha

It was 100 in March in the woods around Uxmal .. If you are at the beach it is ok I guess but if you like to explore the ruins and the woods it can get hot , just do it early in the morning and sleep in the afternoon and find a cool house in Merida.. What I do not like about Merida is the lack of green vegetation on the streets and with the sin beating on the stone and cement it is very unpleasant, just go and visit.
I dislike Quintana Roo but love the Yucatan and the small towns so I visit from San Cristobal , I like Campeche as well but when the heat gets bad I just get out..

If I'm to ever endure that heat and humidity I would want to be right near the beach which Merida is not. Personally I would go to PV.

There is visiting heat and humidity for a vacation and living with heat and humidity. Did it for six years in San Pancho and will never do it again... that's with full house AC and a pool.
Ideally, do the beach from the end of October until the end of May... and inland and higher elevation from June 1st to October 31st.
Each to his/her own but other than the month of May, the climate here is PURRRRRFECT for me.

Same here, I lived in a swamp in Alabama for 2 years at the mouth os a river on the Mobile Bay and that was not as hot as Merida and there was air and greenery no cement and I would not live in there for the climate..Yes it is nice to visit not so much to live there.. the humidity and heat sap all my energy , to visit ok to live there , no way,, but everyone is different.. I remember being in Merida in November and dying of heat and the hotel owner telling me, it is as good as it gets... no thanks..

I could never live there year round. It's 6 months of INTENSE heat and humidity and 6 of moderate heat and humidity - or live in AC. Neither are attractive. I tried to do this once before in 2007 and moved to Sayulita. I lasted a year. July to July. It was brutal. So I will go to Merida for a couple of weeks in Jan.

I'm tired of here.

Yes. I meant, apart from the heat it is a nice place. Both are hotter than I want.

Just had a grand daughter return from Mérida last Friday.  She said the heat wasn´t as bad as the humidity which she said was suffocating.  She spent a week there and said that that was more than enough for her, weather wise.

Lived 2 yrs in Comala....NOT as hot as Colima. Loved it but had to move back to Mazatlan due to house there not selling, otherwise might still be in Comala.

I wouldn't live at the bottom of Mount Colima. That sucker is going blow big one of these days........

How could I move to a town I can't pronounce? It is cute and Q is a nice city too. I've been by it, saw the signs, when returning from the Huasteca/Sierra Gorda/Bernal area - which I LOVED and would live in a minute - again, were it not for the heat.

We are very spoiled here, climate-wise, and this climate would be hard to match with the exception of somewhere in south Africa.

We may get ash depending on the winds but we certainly wouldn't get the lava and boiling mud flows which would bury Colama and maybe Colima.

Comala s attractive and has lots of greenery.. but still too hot for me..That area is beautiful but as C bob mentioned no thanks.. do not want to be that close to a volcano . It is only cool if you are used to the coastal climate-

The climate here is hard to beat ..Comitan in Chiapas as a similar climate but as an expat you would be isolated and lonely..
