It is amazing how they can built from teeth to houses with 3 Dprintng.. will be interested to see what they do in Tabasco..People who are that poor do not have fans or AC so I hope the houses have a way letting air in.. The design looks pretty wrong to me.. They should have stilts and way to let the air in. People down there pretty much live outside..

At SXSW on Sunday, an Austin, Texas-based startup called ICON unveiled its plan to print a 650-square-foot house. According to The Verge, which earlier reported on ICON’s concept, the 3D-printed house would be made of cement and take up to one day to be printed by large 3D robots. Best of all, the homes would cost just $10,000. And ICON hopes that eventually, it can bring the cost of homes down to $4,000.

This is, sadly, going to receive so much criticism and lobbying from the construction industry.

Totally mind boggling to me how 3D printing works but, hallelujah that it can be done.

I agree though, the house pictured in ferret's article would be torture to live in in Tabasco. Hope they modify the design for climate. Maybe if they took a wall down . . .

The article didn’t mention if they would be using aerated concrete which would add to its insulating qualities.

The video is showing a house built in Austin, Texas for the purposes of demonstrating the actual 3D printing. BEFORE the video starts, shows a home in Tabasco... note open vented brick work above window and corrugated roof which are all means of venting the hot air out. Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water.
I also don't recall the construction industry getting all bent out of shape by Habitat for Humanity which mostly depends on volunteers for its workforce.
It's a starting point.

having a roof that does not leak will be an improvement for many people down there , as far as air, if it is too hot they will remove the windows or not put them in, no problem and have a hamac rather than a bed..

Good article Jreboll! I am fascinated by these homes and hope there will be more articles and details coming out in the future.
