Blue screen of death on Windows 10

I had the Blue Screen of death on Windows 10 for hours today. I've never seen that before. It took quite awhile to fix. Weird.

I would replace the hard drive ASAP.

It is that bad? It was on an older computer that I rarely use.

Back up.

This computer backs up to an external hard drive often.

Blue screen usually means the HD is failing.

Not to be oppositional, but a blue screen usually means a driver has gone bad, either for the video, keyboard, mouse, sound chip... that kind of thing. Starting the PC in safe mode (which can be extremely difficult in Windows 10) will often bypass the problem so it can be found and fixed. With today's computers, you will most often get an actual message from the BIOS warning you if the hard drive is going.

Luckily since Windows 7, forcing the computer to restart 3 or 4 times will force Windows into repair mode.

In my 22 years in the business, Mechanical hard drives (in most computers) only last 2 to 3 years on average. My rule of thumb is if the computer is over three years old, replace the hard drive.

While the computerguy is correct, that bad drivers can cause the issue, it may be a failing drive that is corrupting the drivers.

Thanks for your thought. Yesterday I got my computer working again by using Troubleshooter in windows security. If suggested new programs may be causing the problem so I deleted my newest program-Avast antivirus. This morning I had the Blue screen again. Time to get professional help maybe.

Do not try to fix this yourself, you can make it more difficult for the tech to do recovery.
