Fan repair Empty Fan repair

Post by ScubaPam Sat Jul 04, 2020 12:16 pm

Guessing this is the best place to post. I have a Vornado Floor Fan which stopped working in the middle of the night. Although only a year or so old and brought from the US, it has been used all night 365 days a year. I did a search and the one possible thing people said to check was the fuse that is in the plug. I did replace that and still nada. This was too expensive for me to just throw away so any suggestions about someone who might be able to repair it? TIA

Where are you?
In Chapala - Camarena repair shop on Lopez Cotilla, north side of the street, 2 or 3 blocks down from Madero.
In SJC - carretera, south side of the street, near the light/school/tope.

So sorry - I am in Ajijic Centro so I could have it taken to either. Thanks!

You're welcome. If you take it to Camerena in Chapala you will probably get it back faster. Both businesses are excellent but the shop in SJC is probably busier.
Suerte.

There is an electrical repair shop IN AJIJIC, on the corner of Colon and Felipe Angeles, one block north of the Carretera that has repaired at least a dozen fans for me.
No need to go to Chapala or SJC.

Don't know if you've already had it repaired, but the most common problem with fans, both stand-up and ceiling fans, is that the capacitor is dead. Luckily, it's a super cheap part, easy to change out in 15 minutes, so if it turns out not to be that, you haven't wasted time and $. The capacitor is is a little black box, about the size of a small matchbox with 2 short wires coming out of it that costs about 35 pesos. Pretty easy to find when you have the housing off. You just remove the wire nuts on the old capacitor and wire on the new one. I've had fans that were barely turning and after changing out the capacitor, it's like a hurricane.
I find I have to change them out every couple of years.

Thanks - it is fixed now. Turns out there is a second fuse inside the fan motor (who knew?) - that fuse was blown so replaced, fan cleaned and $300 pesos later, works as good as new. Thanks all!

Great news! Where did you end up taking it?
