PRAISE for Chapala Driver's License office
The Driver's License office in Chapala re-opened a couple of weeks ago. You need to make an appointment to get a new license or renew an old one. The website below is where you make the appointment, see what you need to bring, and gives payment details.
So I went to the website and made the appointment after already paying for my renewal at the Recaudador in Chapala a few days prior. I got an appointment for two days later. They ask you to arrive 10 minutes before the appointment so I did. I was immediately attended to when I walked in. Filled out a little form with basic info while the woman checked my paperwork to make sure I had everything. Then I was immediately sent over to one of the desks with another woman at a computer and with the camera set up. She entered my info into the computer, collected my old license, then took my photo. They ask you to wait outside in the courtyard while the license is made. (This is part of limiting the number of people in the office at the same time due to COVID-19) Five minutes later the woman came outside and gave me my license.
I left with my license eleven minutes after my scheduled appointment time, was there 20 minutes total. WOW. Flawless experience. Here's a link to the website.

I had a similar experience. It was easy peazy. I heard of someone whose license had been expired for YEARS and had no problem renewing...

What can I say? My friend is an underachiever.
But he did hear (from his gardener's cousin's nephew's dog-trainer) that it doesn't matter how many years his Jalisco license has been expired.

That is great news — for my friend!

I deal with the drivers license office in Mezcales, Nayarit, but same deal. Totally efficient and easy to deal with.

No test requirement (traffic laws? signs?) for a license renewal?

No test for a driver's license renewal if renewing a Jalisco license in Jalisco.

What was the procedure to renew the Jalisco driving license, and exactly where is the office to do it? Thanks...

There are 3 sections to the above link. One is the location of all offices including Chapala. It is over towards the Red Cross in Chapala.
I need to renew in September but the last time I had to go to Guadalajara because they had closed the office here. P.I.T.A.
