New Tex/Mex coming
We are in Janelle's on Friday evening and met a couple of guys who plan to open a Tex?Mex restaurant on Guadalupe Victoria, Ajijic in August. One of the guys was Mexican who claimed to have family in the Us and Guadalajara restaurant business. He stressed the restaurant would be a "real" Tex/Mex place. So how popular do you think it will be??

I hope its real Tex Mex, so many times they say this than don't have a clue how to really make all the dishes associated with TEX Mex.

Re: New Tex/Mex coming
Guadalupe Victoria is a long street with almost no random parking except at the east end. It's narrow and grungy in places, and one easterly block was always known as a drug hangout. M&J Royal Pizza could not survive in the nicer west end at #45. I am not in the restaurant business, but to open there, in the down season, plagued with Covid measures, seems like three strikes before even getting to bat.

Guadalupe Victoria is a 6 block long street beginning on the east end at Revolución, directly behind the Bugambilias Mall parking garage, and on the west end at Marcos Castellanos. There have been many restaurants and pizzerias come and go and some still there on that street. Maybe the new mini-mall directly behind the Farmacia Guadalajara?

Re: New Tex/Mex coming
Well, there was a great little lunch place at the east end, and I know Perry started down from Farm Guad, but most everything else is local shops. So yeah, that new mini-mall might be just the place. And didn't I read something about another place opening there, too?

Re: New Tex/Mex coming
I understand Tango has purchased the house at the bottom of Colon across from Maria Isabella. Not sure if they are moving or opening a different restaurant. Anyone else heard this?

You have Italo´s there and the pizzeria across the street, which I believe is Michael Eager´s brother-in-law, that has been there for years.
Perry started there, M & J was there, and Rick Fischer´s help that tried to continue his business was there, over the years, to name a few.
Of course, on the east end you have Alex´s, the Vietnamese place, and Ismet´s hamburger place, just a few doors up from G.V.
The street always has chairs and buckets blocking parking spaces.

MaJ is still across the street from me, they are filling their gas tank as we speak, they are doing just fine, most orders are pick ups or delivery..

Ive been delivered too many burnt, squished pizzas from them. Dominks is my goto place now. Always hot, never burnt or squished. Delivered within 25 minutes of order.

Of course, over the years. Not disputing that. All come and gone. I thought that pizza place was long gone though. And I see on Facebook that M&J actually re-opened, but the last message I had from them was that they had closed. Anyway, that is good news for them and people that like their pizza. The other places you mentioned are not on G.V. I'm talking strictly about the street itself, and I don't think anything I said can be refuted, actually. It's long and crowded, and only has parking really at the east end. My initial point being, I don't think it is wise to open a new restaurant business in a town full of barely-making-it restaurants... in the DOWN season... during COVID restrictions... on that end of the street.

Or anywhere for that matter. My wife's boutique is barely staying afloat.

I don´t think it is a great street either to put a restaurant, and those couple of restaurants on the side streets, the parking isn´t any better either.
My point is that they have, and probably will have, people keep trying to use that street as a location. At least if you count Italo´s, there are three places for pizza.

Make a pizza dough. Top with too much cumin and Rotel canned diced tomatoes with chiles. There you go - Tex Mex pizza!

Besides the 3 Pizza places (Italo´s, Mi Pueblo, and M & J, there are 2 other restaurants on GV, Loncheria Ana and Pequeña Cocina, but I don´t think they are Tex-Mex, just ordinary Mexican restaurants.

Re: New Tex/Mex coming
Do any restaurants lakeside make a killer margarita like those frozen margaritas the bars and Tex Mex restaurants make in Texas? There was a place in Austin Tx that made a margarita with 1 oz Everclear, 1 oz Tequila Anejo, and 1 oz Grand Marnier that would blow your socks off.
I usually only had one, but once I drank two and went into a coma.

Thanks for the post Kiko. I had just been asking myself if anything good comes from Texas.
Now I know, one good margarita.

Re: New Tex/Mex coming
Just wondering why anyone would use Tequila anejo in a Margarita? That's the better aged stuff that you can drink neat. Cheaper stuff would do just fine and here you could use just twice the Tequila and forget the Everclear.
You also forgot the lime juice in your recipe... the freshly squeezed SMALL limes.
One (or two) jiggers of Tequila, one jigger of Controy (Mexican version of Cointreau and equal to Grand Marnier) plus two jiggers of fresh lime juice. Over ice cubes.
However, you can slush it in the blender and freeze it if you're so inclined.
