Taxis?

I get the fact that Uber doesn't exist at Lakeside.

Do any of the taxis use an app out here at the Lake? I understand that they do in Guadalajara and other larger cities.

Or is there a WHATSAPP number to order a taxi?

I am not aware of any App or whatsapp number for taxis in this area. Calling the "taxi stand" at the Ajijic Plaza is hit and miss. Either they don't answer the phone or don't send a driver. The best bet locally is to have a couple of private drivers contact info and use them. There seems to be plenty of them around.

Thank you! We were introduced to the reality last night that taxis quit at 8pm. Walked from Bruno's to Riberas.

Visit the taxi stands and ask one (or more) for their card; they all have business cards with their cell numbers. Inquire if they are interested in driving you later in evening and get a price from x to y. If they agree you'd have to give them advance notice.

I keep getting told by drivers that it is very dangerous being a taxi driver at night, both here and Guadalajara. This why it makes sense to make sure they know their fare before they pick them. Most of the trouble is armed robberies. We are with no vehicle now, by choice, and rely on a few drivers. The peace of mind is well worth it and I think it saves $$$ rather than keeping a vehicle.

I totally agree , it is much cheaper to use taxis rather than own a car. We have two dependable drivers who if they are busy will send someone else and identify to us the car number they are sending. My Mexican wife disagrees and wants a car, but I think it is just for status.

It really depends on ones lifestyle. For those that like to go shopping into Guadalajara regularly, go on road trips, do things at spur of the moment and enjoy a vibrant nightlife, etc., not owning a car would be impractical.

In the small where we have our home there’s a few taxi drivers who use their own private cars when they go to Guadalajara, the airport or to other towns. We know who they are and tell them personally when we need them.
