Place to get a leather sofa dyed??

We have a very nice Palliser leather reclining sofa and chair that we want to keep but it is now the wrong color for our makeover. Has anyone had a luck getting leather furniture dyed around here? It is currently a burgundy color and we'll probably go black.

We went and talked with the salespeople at Furniture for Less (where we purchased the sofa 12 years ago) and they recommended that we get it reupholstered in black leather versus dyeing it. They said it can be done for around 20K. The sofa is still like brand new and worth 4 times that amount so it would be worth it.

I'm not sure how soon we will do this so if you want that info anytime soon maybe go ask the guys at Furniture for Less.

A friend of mine recently had her sun-faded leather sofa re-dyed by hand by (I´m pretty sure) the shoe repair guy on the carreterra near Colon in Ajijic. He came to her house on the weekend to do it (after his shop closed). She´s happy with how it came out. Price was very reasonable.

And I, too, would be interested in hearing about an upholsterer good with leather.

As far as reupholstering, there is nothing special about using leather instead of cloth- any competent upholsterer can do that. There aren't any special tools or skills required for upholstering with leather.
Dying leather is a different skill.

Ah, yes, you definitely wouldn't want bonded leather, which isn't actually real leather, at least not much.

"Bonded leather is actually a mix of both real and fake leather. It is made from the leftover scraps and fibers made from processing genuine leather mixed with a polyurethane binder. These fibers are then rolled together using adhesives to bond them onto a paper backing. Some manufacturers may add an additional coating of polyurethane to the bonded leather and emboss it so it has the texture of real leather. Most bonded leather is comprised of only 10-20% genuine leather. Some manufacturers market bonded leather as real leather, when it in fact only contains a small percentage of genuine leather."

I would be very surprised if it was difficult to find real leather in Guadalajara.
