John doesn't pretty much everything at Outbacks qualify for the not too good
for you? I agree it does taste very very good.

American food with an Aussie attitude. Started by some guys in Florida who each owned a Chili's franshise.

I suppose that if you worked like a fool from sunup to sundown on a ranch in Aussieland, you could probably survive the Outback diet.

And what's so bad about the "Outback Diet". For sure, when you eat there, you know you will get "consistently good" quality food, unlike here. Some of the restauranteurs here need to take lessons from Outback. I have never had inconsistent, poor quality food in ANY Outback even in the US.
Their Burgers put every restaurant in Ajijic to shame. They use crap for hamburger meat here. We make burgers at home and put every restauranmt to shame in Ajijic.

Re: French fried Onion Rings
With the ever growing list of what is better at John's house, one has to wonder just why he graces the doors of any restaurant in Ajijic? Maybe a crowd of 12 to 15 should show up at his home unannounced and start ordering one each of all the things he claims he is best at cooking?
Going back to the original topic, after a fair amount of research, I am inclined to believe that most restaurants tend to list Fried Onion Rings as opposed to French Fried Onion Rings. All bets are off when it comes to the deep south where non fried items die a slow death if and when they appear on their menus.

John we are not talking about the quality of the food at Outback. We are talking about the health value of the menu which is not the best. I agree it is a very very tasty menu and
I go there when I can for the coconut shrimp and other things. I feel very comfortable there but the real questions should I even eat the bloomin onion?? Probably not. Health
wise it is a kinda old school thing food wise but have to admit have not been there in a couple of years so maybe to be fair they have a better diet on the menu but somehow I
doubt it.

Re: French fried Onion Rings
Actually, you will find that like so many restaurants, Outback has changed their menu to offer more healthy choices:
http://www.outback.com/menu/nutritionitem.aspx?id=2275
And they even have a "Gluten Free" listing:
http://www.outback.com/menu/pdf/glutenfree.pdf
Disclaimer: this is the NOB version and since we have never tried Outback in Mexico, I have no idea what the differences may be.

Re: French fried Onion Rings
Zed, there is a reason for the obesity problem in the states, particularly in the South where deep fried everything is in favor.
Now, there is also an obesity problem in Mexico, too. This stems not from their original diet, but the Coca Cola company has augmented it enormously and deep fried everything is popular too.
Salt and grease are a winning combo. Just consider the proliferation of fast food restaurants, where that is the main content of their offerings. How's anyone going to be healthy, growing up on and eating that shit all their lives?

Sweetbutt, "shit" is a product description, not a swear word. It is exactly what it is. Would you rather hear it in French, Spanish or Italian?

Re: French fried Onion Rings
Had a McDonald's special lately? I agree it's B.F.S. as you so colorfully expanded my description, sweetbutt. I had figured one word would suffice, but why not nail the coffin shut more securely? Good-o.
Hearing a kid plead, even tearfully, for a "happy meal" is a sad commentary on how the little "consumers" are being trained to eat (lady word here) JUNK.
Having fries with that?

It’s about moderation, Julia Child said it best; eat the good stuff just cut down on the size of the proportions.
Just looked up the word “shit” and in all cases it’s described as a “highly offensive term” perhaps the word you were looking for might be feces or manure. (Now this is funny.)

Random House Dictionary: Shit: 1) excrement or feces (first definition given).
and on to (5) something inferior or worthless.
I'll go with definition (5).
Oy.

Re: French fried Onion Rings
CG - Thanks for providing the link to Outback. The Menus and prices for Mexico are slightly different. I usually get the Coconut Shrimp on the dinner. It doesn't exist on the US menu.
The reason for obesity in most countries is the type of food eaten. If the parents wouldn't give in or would cook for the family, instead of running to those fast food garbage places there would be no obesity. But that includes not buying fattening snacks when shopping.
Mexico has taken over the US in number one for obesity. Coca Cola is one of the reasons along with their unhealthy diet.

Re: French fried Onion Rings
The Score does 'em. Why are they sometimes called "French-fried?" In the South (Dawg help me out here) "Fried" anything means "deep-fried," same way potatoes, onion rings, and shrimp are "fried."
Welll, David, Dawg married a French woman in 1971 and I can assure you that to best of my knowledge, "French fried Onion Rings" may not be well known in France although French Fried potatoes are very popular . Now if, on the other hand you are speaking of "Frainch Frahd Onion Rangs", that´s another matter altogether. Dawg loves those and there ued to be a pace in Chapala that made wonderful fried onion rings although that was a few years ago so I must look into this. I´ll get back to you soon.

Re: French fried Onion Rings
Probably Tomas' Bar in Chapala makes the best rings in all of Mayheeco. At least, that's what some regular drunkard told me (over and over again) last time I was there. They were pretty good, actually.
And weren't french fries actually first popularized in Holland, where they still love to dip them in mayonnaise?
