"Derived from intelligence work, this morning was assured Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, alleged son of Joaquin Guzman," said a statement shortly dependence.

The Mexicans won't have to suffer much longer when they get a new President who won't want an all out war on the cartels as Calderone did. The Mexicans can only blame their own President. Nothing to do with the US whatsoever.

Really John, nothing to do with the US whatsoever? You might want to brush up a bit on the history of the drug war in Mexico. You can start with "Operation Condor" and take it from there. Stop by the "Mérida Initiative" while you're doing your homework.

Is this "June Surprise" modeled after "October Surprises" that just happen to happen right before US November elections?? Actually others predict that El Chapo himself will be the real June Surprise. I doubt it.

While I'd like to believe the opposite, I sincerely doubt that the July election will change much in Mexico. The cartels will still fight each other for a larger piece of the pie, notwithstanding who the El Presidente is. Lots of folks think that deals will be (or maybe already have been) struck between PRI and the cartels, but seriously, why would the cartels negotiate with the government....they have the upper hand.

What needs to change is the judicial and law enforcement systems; as long as there is no punishment, no integrity and no trust in the legal system of Mexico, there's little chance the bad guys will follow any rules of any kind.

While it's likely that the Army will be withdrawn from some areas and not engage the cartels in street fights, the violence that occurs now between rival cartels will continue.

For those of you who don't read Spanish, I can recommend a couple of good books for an overview of the Drug War. First is a novel called "The Power of the Dog" by Don Winslow. The second is "Narco: Inside Mexico's Criminal Insurgency" by Ioan Grillo.

These two would make a good starting point for further research.

Yes, I agree with some element of this. I think the worst thing that could happen to Americans in Mexico is the US catching or killing Sr. Guzman. If that happens, head for the hills. No, wait, the hills aren't safe. . .head for the beach. Don't think these guys surf.

...I like to read the comments that people make on the news articles ....it's interesting, those comments are for the most part , very different from the comments here, with the exception of what John wrote...evidently Juan Q. Publico seems to count all of this as Mexico's doings,.
